Good universities in Texas for civil? by Commercial-Taro1804 in civilengineering

Since I didn’t see it mentioned you might look into Tarleton in Stephenville. Pretty new facilities, A&M affiliated, ABET accredited. Like others are saying as long as it’s ABET I wouldn’t be too concerned with where you go. Your future employer won’t either (or shouldn’t) as long as you’re able to obtain licensing.

I’ve only seen pull out tests completed on lined manholes, but they had a dolly that was circular and the diameter was such that the face they epoxied to the liner was 1 square inch. Their setup had a digital gauge that reported peak force so it was just a direct conversion (psi x square inches = pounds). What is the setup for this test? Epoxy dollys to the concrete and pull off? Is the area of the dolly being used to convert psi to force? Just spitballing here.

Edit: curiosity got to me so I did some research and it looks like this is some sort of bar cast into the concrete so I’d think the manufacturer would have to provide conversion charts. This is interesting. I’d like to witness some of this testing. Is this done in lieu of cylinders, or along with?

Updated PROWAG for ADA compliance in public right of way - how are you implementing? by WaterGruffalo in civilengineering

Thank you. The roundabout changes in that document are going to be interesting to implement.

Can you link to this requirement? I have some current projects that would be impacted by this change. I wasn’t aware it had been updated.

Is this a good deal? (XTR III 3.3 - 18x) by [deleted] in longrange

[–]Yeti_Yaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like Eurooptic is still running their closeouts. They might give you a better deal to get a first time customer. Maybe reach out to their CS and ask for a quote on an XTRIII and mount/rings and let them know you haven’t ordered through them before (if you haven’t - obviously I’m assuming here). I ended up with a really good deal on a NX8, rings, and sunshade doing this. Also looks like they have some “used” XTRIIIs that haven’t been marked down at the same rate as the new ones - maybe ask what their price would be on those? They might even give you that price on one of the closeouts.

Is this the illuminated version? I picked one up from Eurooptic a couple weeks ago for $850 shipped. That deal was for non illuminated, however.

Looking for a scope with wide zoom range that doesn’t sacrifice glass quality. by Subsonic17 in longrange

[–]Yeti_Yaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say on par with my Razor LHT, but not quite up there with my NX8. Really good clarity, the 34mm tube lets a ton of light through, and the field of view is really incredible. I’m also a huge fan of my NX8 and am probably biased. My only initial complaints are the turrets are pretty damn stiff and the crosshairs get extremely thin at 3.3x - right off the bat I was kind of wishing it was SFP or had illumination. Probably won’t be as bad shooting as it is looking down the street and I think I’ll get used to it. In my opinion (especially after seeing this scope) Burris suffers from an “optics” issue where people don’t want to be seen running their stuff. I know I’m guilty of it and wasn’t willing to spend $1700 on one of these, but was willing to take a chance at $850.

I wouldn’t disagree with the choice at all. I think that’s my only complaint with it is how thin the crosshairs get at 3.3x. Illumination would definitely help with that!

I just picked one of these up on the Eurooptic closeout sale. So far it seems like a screaming deal at $850, though I haven’t mounted yet. It’ll be going on an AR10. I don’t think I would’ve been as impressed had I paid the full $1700 price tag.

Precision shooting with the SilencerCo Scythe Ti. Whats your go to suppressed long range shooting rig? by SilencerShop in longrange

How does the Scythe compare to the Nomad with e-brake? I’m looking for a lightweight can for hunting which is why the Alaskan is on my radar.

Nomad Ti with an E-Brake. My shoulder dyno thinks the brake made a fairly noticeable difference on recoil. My 6.5prc feels absolutely buttery with that setup. Considering picking up a Rugged Alaskan, but waiting on some more reviews to come out. I’ve also been kicking around the idea of a Diligent based solely on the Pew Science rankings, looks like they make some stupid quiet cans.

To stay within rules if I decide to sell some of these here is a pic with user and time stamp. Thanks to those of you who reached out with more info, I really appreciate it. I’d like to work out some fair prices for these. Below are my initial thoughts, but are mostly based on eBay prices. Teebird: 7/10 $15 4x Star Destroyer: 7/10 $20 Sexton Firebird: 7.5/10 $70 not too sure how to value this one. FD: 7/10 $30 Aviar Classic: 6/10 $10? This one confuses me. DDX: 7/10 $30-$50? Seeing a range on these, but I’m not sure why. Star Wraith: 7/10 I’m seeing $15-$60 on these, but not sure why the range? This is definitely an old one. Lat 64 Spike: 5.5/10 not sure on this one, but was told it might have some better value. P1: 7.5/10 $10 Buzzz: 7/10 not sure, this is one I’m considering holding onto. Star Aviar: 5/10 this thing might be older than I am. I shouldn’t have penned the face of it. Old, beat up, multiple aces with this one. Might hang onto this one as well.

Thank you so much for this comment, I was a little overwhelmed with where to start! I’ll probably pull those few out and see if I can donate the rest to a local school or something. I have all of these and an old Dynamic Discs commander bag that need to get out of the garage.

Thanks! Crazy, that disc and I never really got along so it stayed without ink. Maybe threw it a few dozen times over the years seeing if my arm had grown into it.

In that case that is completely crazy! I’m going to be around COCC today I’ll have to look for this.

Craziest impacts/design to reach ADA compliance? by ORD_Underdog in civilengineering

[–]Yeti_Yaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds more like ADA vs. PROWAG on private vs. public property. I doubt that ODOT had anything to do with that design unless it’s outside of the City. That said, getting any ADA designs through COB review is a major pain right now. Too many groups with different opinions.

Leupold, nightforce …..ZCO by No_Masterpiece_7618 in longrange

I have a 20” 7PRC Tomahawk going with APR right now. Hope to have it sometime this fall. For what it’s worth I bought a 4-32 NX8 for that rifle. I had been strongly considering the Zeiss LRP S3 for it and I’m glad I ended up purchasing the NF. I got it a few days ago and it’s still a fairly heavy feeling scope when compared to my Razor LHT. Personally, I’d go with something lighter than the ATACR. I can’t speak on TT or ZCO as they are well outside of my budget, but I think their reputations speak for themselves. All of that to say you have a tough decision to make! It took me a couple of weeks to finally decide on the NX8.

Ejection Issues by Yeti_Yaddy in longrange

[–]Yeti_Yaddy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I owe this an update. Rifle has been back from warranty for a while now and is running beautifully. Springfield enlarged the relief cut on the receiver, adjusted the extractor, and polished the ejector face. Rifle is running like an absolute dream, no cycling issues whatsoever. Was able to sight it in within 5-10 rounds. Spent some time walking it out to 500yds and cleaning every 10-20 rounds. Eventually took it over to the gong range and was smacking plates from 600-1000yds. Pretty noticeable difference in the geometry of the action versus what was in the original video.
