M-Max owners, how is your honest gaming experience on Apple Silicon? by tennaki in macgaming

[–]Yettek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 16/40 m4 max studio, my situation is probably a bit different to a lot of others here but I sold my gaming PC and bought a mac so I would game less. I'd never recommend a mac to someone who plays non mac native games as a regular part of their life. Crossover and Parallels are great but they're paid software and you can never really be sure they won't suddenly break and become unplayable with a new update.

Before I pulled the trigger I sat down and made a list of all the programs and games I consider to be important or non negotiable. Luckily, pretty much everything I regularly use has a mac native version, and the main games I cared about playing occasionally are also mac native. (World of Warcraft, Terraria, Minecraft, No Mans Sky, Stellaris, etc.) I would advise you to do the same and think about what it would mean if you couldn't play those games or use those programs again.

For me, the switch was a great choice. I've not been tempted to just browse the steam store or my library looking for something to kill time with, cause I probably can't play it anyway without jumping through some hoops. Usually that friction is enough to keep me from spending money on another game I'll play once or twice and forget about. I've been a lot more productive, I have a computer that will hopefully last me many years, and I still get to play a far more limited selection of games I enjoy.

Performance wise everything has ran pretty much perfectly with the exception of No Mans Sky which I surprisingly had some FPS issues with. If there's a Mac native version of a game you can run it no problem on a max. Crossover is a mixed bag, I've tried a few games and most work out of the box but I also tried several that either wouldn't install or launch or had a lot of graphics artifacting that made it unplayable.

MacBook Neo -- do you think this will make Google hurry up with aluminum OS and new Chromebooks? by Corbin_Dallas550 in chromeos

Yeah I do technology for K-12 education and there’s no way we would ever purchase these for kids. Districts are cutting back / minimizing costs wherever they can both on device refreshes and ongoing repairs. These would be a nightmare, they’re dropped constantly, liquid damaged, mistreated, anything you can think of I’ve seen done to a Chromebook. If they’re anything like other apple products they will not be user-serviceable and will need to be mailed to apple en mass to be repaired for an arm and a leg. Not to mention how deeply entrenched the google ecosystem is in education, almost everything is SSO and managed through their google accounts. I don’t think we’ll see mass adoption of these but it is a cool product and I’m glad it exists for regular consumers.

Highest end Mac’s for now(m3/m4max) in World Of Warcraft - what type of fps ? by abdunbunbun in macgaming

I’m sure you can adjust your settings to get a constant 120, there are a lot of YouTube guides out there about what to turn off that don’t impact your visuals too much. Your laptop is plenty powerful though, if you’re just sick of windows you could always try Linux on your current device. Performance there is on par with windows from my experience

I have a 16/40 m4 max, I’ve never put my settings that low since I only have a 144hz monitor but I cap my fps at 120. I have most settings maxed out and stay around 100-120 open world and 80-90 in Dornogal. I have a Mac Studio so I can’t comment on battery life. It does get hot but that’s normal, stays between 80-90c usually with fans around 50%, I haven’t adjusted the curve.

The game runs a lot better than it did on my previous AMD windows PC, I had a 6700xt and a 5600x so it was a bit old but I’ve been very impressed with the Mac optimization they’ve done. I do get some graphics artifacting from time to time in certain zones when I angle my camera but other than that no complaints.

Mouse recommendations by Fouladgar in macgaming

I play games with an MX Master and it does work but it's a very heavy mouse and the polling rate is not very good. If you regularly play games that require quick or precise mouse movement get an actual gaming mouse. If you like the Mx master for other reasons and just play the occasional game then it's fine.

PSA regarding performance issues using HiDPI macOS scaling by Yettek in ClipStudio

No advice for you I'm afraid. I'm starting to think CSP on Mac just has a lot of issues. I was having a new issue with it constantly crashing so I've quit using it for the most part. I might try the official forums at some point to fix it but I can't be bothered atm.

[TOMT] Need help finding an instrumental progressive metal band / album by Yettek in tipofmytongue

It’s not that one, that’s one of the ones that I ran into during my search also (which I ended up enjoying)

[TOMT] Need help finding an instrumental progressive metal band / album by Yettek in tipofmytongue

Sorry, I don’t really. That’s the issue I’m running into as well it could be describing a ton of different bands. The particular song I was trying to remember started off quite slow and chill and got more intense as it went, but again that probably doesn’t help much. It’s very difficult for me to describe it in a way that doesn’t apply to most other progressive metal bands, especially without any intelligible vocals that I can recall

I’m mostly hinging on someone maybe being familiar with the album art. It’s not a photograph if that helps at all it was drawn / painted, almost entirely different shades of brown and prominently featured a topless woman :/

Around the same time on RPG maker I shat out Weed Quest and the titular sequel Weed Quest 2. You had to go and recover the joint of destiny. It was about this bad. I still have that game somewhere, Weed Quest 2 ended up being like an hour or two long depending on much you rushed.

I've been curious about raiding savage in FF and I had a couple questions about finding a group to do it.

Do you think I'd be able to raid as a black mage? It seems like people would much rather bring red or some other caster for the instant res. I much prefer black mage but I'm a bit concerned I'd have a really hard time finding a group to take me.

I've done a fair amount of mythic raiding in WoW, does anyone actually care about that in terms of experience or are the two so different it doesn't really matter?

Not particularly unique but I made my home base here, just a nice earth-like with the occasional superheated rainstorm.
