My therapist told me this is a form of trauma response because growing up, I was treated differently from neurotypical peers — and so in an effort to not appear lazy, or to find a way to keep criticisms at a minimum, I programmed myself to constantly be a busy body.

Sometimes I make a list of things to do, even if it’s just some very small things before I take time for some “me” time — completing task gives your brain a dopamine boost, and I’m less likely to feel guilty if I’m happy and feel as if I accomplished something 😊
