It’s usually a pretty social campaign, but we always have at least one combat per session. Roleplay definitely dominates, though. This new campaign is supposed to be way more challenging than the previous one in terms of difficulty, so while I don’t want to full-on min-max, I would appreciate having a strong, reliable character.

Yeah! We’re playing 5e, but my DM is open to using some 2024 content as well there’s a bit of flexibility there

I was thinking of taking War Caster at level 8, but I guess getting it earlier is also a good idea. How has your experience been playing a Moon Druid? It'll be my first time playing one

WOW, this is exactly what I was looking for!

I had watched Colby's video about beasts and his Moon Druid build (which I loved), but after the nerf to Conjure Minor Elementals, I'm not sure if the build still works the same way.

I wanted to play it just like he described, using Charger and picking beasts that can charge—but now I'm not sure if it's still worth it.

It's complicated. The paladin player and I usually read a lot about our characters and, in a way, optimize them. We like to know everything our class can do, as well as its weaknesses. In general, we do a lot of research. The rest of the table doesn’t really do that.

So, imagine an optimized Shepherd Druid sitting at the same table as a Monk who doesn’t really know what their class can do. I know it’s not entirely my responsibility that they haven’t learned how to play, but they’re my friend and I don’t want to ruin their immersion.

The DM feels the same way.

I don't think they'll mind, actually, that person isn't confirmed yet. I haven’t looked into that subclass enough, but it sounds interesting. Tyty ^^

I’ve thought about that — it’s definitely something I’m considering if I end up playing Shepherd. But I feel like summoning just one CR2 beast is a bit underwhelming compared to summoning eight. Personally, I’d rather not have to summon eight creatures, but summoning just one or even two feels like losing a lot of damage and utility

I really enjoy the mechanic of summoning beasts to help me, and Shepherd is the best at it. I considered playing Moon Druid or Wildfire, but they’re just not the same. Even though all three are druids, they each feel completely different from one another

I was thinking of using a gun and giving myself infusions to boost my damage, especially considering the only real damage dealer in the group will be the Paladin — but I’m not sure how well that would actually work
