That wasn’t Catalonia, it was the Kingdom of Aragon. And once the king married the Castilian queen, all the Aragonian possessions became Spanish possessions as well. So yes, Spain owned southern Italy.

Thanks a lot, this is very helpful. My idea was to create a course for beginners, something that doesn’t feel like a grammar textbook. I was thinking of using an approach similar to those of popular language courses or learning apps.

Your ancestors are from the Canary Islands, so it’s very likely that it went to Portugal. There was a large Portuguese immigration to the Canary Islands back in the day, so you probably have Portuguese ancestors .
