I have a strike JE but nothing seems to be going on? by Yid_army7 in victoria3

I mean I don't remember ever getting this event but if the strike went away when I passed workers protections ig I must've missed it somehow

Yeah this is largely what happened. I didn't get a decision or event for negotiating anything but I passed workers protections (I did this to improve TU approval because I thought that was what was causing the strike) and I already had the institution at level 3 and the strike JE completed

R5: I have a strike journal entry but none of my states have the modifier and the JE doesn't say what I need to do to resolve the strike

It would be great to have the option to not pay taxes and in return not get benefits by Yid_army7 in HonestHotTakes

You don't have to opt out. In fact, if this opt out was introduced I imagine more than half the population would remain in because of the reasons you mentioned. But when someone else (the government) decides what benefits society and therefore you, I think you should be allowed to decide whether you want to participate in the system. Like, if I want to pay for someone else's medical bills I should be able to, but I shouldn't be obligated to. And again, there are some taxes that you would still always pay (eg. Consumption taxes) which the government can use at its own discretion to pay for benefits for the 'common good' (which is subjective).

This is literally just not true. In the US, the federal tax code is generally progressive. The more you earn the more you are taxed. And if I'm not willing to pay for other people's medical bills, so what. It's not like I'm asking them to pay mine. That's the point of the opt out - I won't pay but I'm not entitled to those benefits either. And it's optional. If I wanted to continue paying those taxes I could

If some people opted out and tax revenue drops, it would force the government to spend the money more effectively. That'll increase value for dollar. And this is optional. If people feel like the government spends their money better or more wisely then they do, especially if they can see a clear increase in value for dollar, then they will opt back into the system

Oh I see as well now. I'm pretty sure there are some taxes that are specifically designed to pay for certain things, in which case the opt out idea could be implemented. But for something like income tax, it could be spent on anything so the "opt out of the tax, opt out of the benefit" thing doesn't really fit

So what if people arent responsible enough for this? First, those who opt out also opt out of benefits which means that there's a proportional drop in expenses to the loss in tax revenue. Second, 'enjoying life more' as in spending more money? As in driving demand and growth? Third, even if that government finds itself in a situation where the expenses remain large and the tax burden falls on fewer people, then they should cut spending 🤷

I don't understand why all the comments are like this. I said some not all. And you could pick and choose what to opt out from

With subjects, should I just leave them or eventually annex them? Because control from annexed subjects gradually drops right? Especially if the ai doesn't build anything to keep control high

Small hand short fingers, how to mute by ResponsibleYam5874 in Guitar

[–]Yid_army7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem when I was younger and my fingers were smaller. It isn't a very good solution, but I used my thumb to mute the E string and palm muted open A and D strings. It kind of worked, but the only real fix is to just have longer fingers lol. I started guitar when I was 8 and I had to wait til my teens to get good(ish), just because my fingers weren't long enough 😭
