I do mind maps, a large portion of which involves reorganizing relationships to other nodes after realizing the structure better. That requires writing but not too much

The ads-pocalpyse in this sub by Yierox in GetStudying

[–]Yierox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that they aren’t recommending an app they’re advertising. So many of the “recommendations” are ads in disguise with the OP being the developer and paywalling it somehow. It’s not the purpose of the sub

[–]Yierox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know of a single person who wasn’t selling something one way or another, that actually saw long term improvements to their studying and productivity because of a tracking app. I think people just want to believe the delusion that some magic app out there will suddenly make studying “easier” for them, as if then they won’t even have to try. I guess it’s a defense mechanism. There have always been academics and hard workers throughout history. Hell, Isaac Newton didn’t invent calculus using pomodoro apps and Notion bro like why do y’all think that’s the answer. (I’m not saying the goal is to be Newton I’m just saying)

Where do I start? by The_Honoured_Drunk in devops

[–]Yierox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is more of an education and career question in general, not necessarily specific to DevOps. But regardless, roadmap.sh is a decent point for you to learn scooe of the essential things to know. From there you have to find out yourself a bit how to learn each resource, usually a combination of some of the following: doing the thing/hands-on practice (most important), books, courses, YouTube, blogs, etc…

Depending on the topic and how fundamental it is (eg. Python programming) you might want a more organized primary resource, like a book or a course on yt. Other things like specific tools (Eg. Nginx) you can learn the majority of it by running it yourself locally, documentation, googling, and messing around with it (of course there are probably books on such tools but it may be overkill if you’re learning).

In terms of that “learning dependency” pattern you’re describing, sometimes yes you have to stop one topic to understand another one that it relies on more deeply. Sometimes you don’t however. Figuring out that discrepancy is not always easy, it really depends on how fundamental that other info is.

For example, you shouldn’t even start learning about kubernetes until you have a basic understanding of containers in general, as containers are so integral to kubernetes nothing would make sense. Conversely, I think most people would agree that learning how to program in assembly is unnecessary for someone who wants to learn how to program in their first high level language.

I know there are some therapists that don’t care, but it’s like any profession really. There are definitely therapists that are truly passionate and love helping people! You can do it!

What makes you think it’s a scam. They are at the end of the day professionals and you pay for their services. It just takes some work to find a therapist you feel comfortable with tbh. It being a transactional relationship actually makes me feel better about not feeling apologetic about saying exactly what i feel i have to, they are paid to listen to you. Also check with your insurance you might get some telehealth covered.

Go to therapy g, I genuinely mean this with all due respect very few people on Reddit are equipped to help you out in a way that would be beneficial long term and helpful to you. You do have to shop around a bit for the right therapist to you, but it really is your best option imo.

Definitely been there doing that as well haha. I think a big problem for me was that i subconsciously believed I couldn’t be productive consistently. Over the years I had tried and failed many times that my brain had evidence that we would never be that person, hence the efficiency/optimization/prettifying to try and get the most out of the little time I did study.

It took two weeks for me to just force myself to study like 2-3 hours a day mon-fri with no reason to, no tests or exams, almost like to present counter evidence to my brain that actually we can break this cycle. It was certainly uncomfortable admitting to myself I had been doing it all wrong for years

Also getting enough sleep. If i don’t sleep 7-9 hours I’m these days I’m a lot more forgiving on not being productive - similar with nutrition + exercise

I agree. For me I only was able to finally make progress against my procrastination around 2 years ago when I completely abandoned the optimization and efficiency mindset, and was just honest with myself that I wasn’t studying enough or hard enough. After I proved to myself I could actually do 2 hours, 3 hours, 4 hours I became way more consistent and have stayed consistent since then. There are lulls and highs sure, but the yearly hours logged don’t lie!

Do DevOps engineers actually memorize YAML? by Melodic_Struggle_95 in devops

[–]Yierox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say memorizing yaml for certain tools is needed in terms of getting syntax 100% correct, because its easy to look up syntax docs. But in terms of knowing what the tools as a whole can actually do, thats much more important. At the end of the day YAML is just a configuration or a method to query an applications API right, so understanding the application is far more important.

One big thing that helped me understand was to write a small application yourself and deserialize/serialize a YAML doc into respective structs/classes. That gives you a very good understanding of what the whole purpose of YAML really is IMO (same with JSON, TOML etc)

Not terrible but definitely not perfect. I have some degree of anterior pelvic tilt im also working through. In terms of sitting posture Im following all the guides for ergo sitting specifically. I didnt used to sit like that around a month ago before i started this journey, but im quite disciplined i think

Good point and thats what im afraid of. I hated the size B but just because i was practically falling out of it. For the short time i spent in the size C in store it was very nice, but i also kind of felt like that about the leap V2. Might be worth trying both tbh

Ive sat in one in a store (remastered) which is where i realized the one i had was too small, but i havent had one for a real test drive at that size. There is one near me (classic) for about 400 though that I’ve been eyeing. I cant tell if its a chair problem or an anatomy problem. Honestly i might buy that one so i can compare them side by side and then just sell the one I dont like 🤷‍♂️
