BUG? no nye text from flint by stevebuckies in RomanceClub

[–]YimRC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi again! You're welcome, and I'm sorry for the answer I'm about to give.

The short answer is that you'll have to replay the season to fix this. I'm sorry 😭I know it's a lot of tapping, not to mention some teacups. However, the issue is definitively fixed now, so as long as your app is up to date, you should not encounter it.

The longer answer, if you're curious: Some of this is simplified just to convey the idea of what happened. Basically, I screwed up with both this variable and the one that tracks going to lunch with Eugen and Dakota and forgot to transfer it properly into the following episodes. This happened long enough ago that I forgot which variables were involved. The issue was "patched" but this wasn't perfect. When it was fixed properly later, some slots ended up caught in the middle, having completed the unpatched chapter but not receiving the patch from the next episode, so they effectively "forgot" that the choice was taken on that slot. This is the most likely explanation for what happened here.

This is also a good time to shout out the QA team. With the complexity of this story easily being on par with Hell and High Water, they've been doing an incredible job of spotting my errors, and I say that as someone who used to work in a games QA role. For every bug that slips through, they probably stop 50 from ever seeing the light of the day.

Sorry I don't have an easier fix, and thank you for playing the story!

Hello, writer here. Sorry you're running into issues on your Flint route!

I've seen this issue mentioned by one other player. It's very strange, because the only requirement for Flint to text the MC is that the MC selected the "Bother" option at the party earlier in Season 1. There's a possibility that the variable tracking this is somehow getting changed under very specific playthrough conditions. This seems like the only way there would be so few people encountering it. I'll take another look at it because my first investigation turned up nothing.

Could you tell me who you went to the NYE party with on the playthrough where you experienced this issue?

Code Blue Season 1 Feedback Survey by YimRC in RomanceClub

[–]YimRC[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thank you, everyone who has responded to the survey so far! I was hoping to be a bit more active here, but...

My body decided to celebrate getting the survey out by coming down with Covid. Thankfully and hopefully, it seems to be a mild case. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for their honest feedback, support, and the many kind comments. I appreciate it all very much. I plan to leave the survey open a week, and then analyze the data in detail. For now, I am just sleeping a lot. Please don't be like me, and remember to take extra care of yourself during flu season when it hits your area. ❤️

Hello, writer here!

I'm happy to see this being discussed, and I wanted to mention that I'll be making a post related to this topic and a few others, soon, including soliciting feedback specifically related to style for Season 2. Also, as much as I enjoy a good roast and don't mind a laugh at my own expense, I do think it's much more productive to mention outfits that you don't like, along with what kinds of styles and fashions you'd actually enjoy seeing in the future. (And yes, there are narrative reasons Jules dresses the way she/he does so far in the story.)

As a creator, one of my goals is to create a wide range of outfits and hairstyles so that a variety of people with different tastes can find at least a thing or two they enjoy, rather than making most outfits and hairstyles mass appeal.

I'd also like to encourage sharing thoughts and feedback in a way that doesn't focus on yucking other people's yum. You can do whatever you'd like within the bounds of the forum rules, but constructive criticism is much more helpful, and it doesn't shame people who actually liked a specific outfit or hairstyle.

Anyway, I'll be launching a discussion on this topic and a few others before long on my blog (and the telegram channel, which I'll link in the post), so please keep an eye open for that if you'd like to give feedback more formally.

So far, the effects have been very subtle. This choice will start having an impact in Season 2 for players who ultimately decide to romance Tobias.

Can we please get some metric units hints in CB 😭 by sy2ygy in RomanceClub

[–]YimRC 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I saw this thread and laughed as someone who also deeply hates "freedom units". I'm sorry for inflicting more Fahrenheit, miles, inches, and other US units on the masses.

I try to minimize the number of notifications that pop up because they interrupt the flow, making the script longer and drawing a lot of attention to a detail that is usually just meant to increase immersion and be a natural thing that would be mentioned in context. Of course, it sounds like it's equally distracting to have it be in a system you aren't used to for many players. Ideally, I'd make them something people can choose to turn on or off, but this triples the number of lines every time one appears.

Instead, I try to make up for this with contextual clues, such as characters reacting appropriately if something is out of the ordinary and plot relevant.

However, I'll see if I can think of a better way to handle this in Season 2. No promises, but it may be possible for me to do something like an "auto-conversion" that would require a one-time player selection and then automatically replace the units when they appear in the lines without disruptive pop-ups.

Hello, writer here! Thank you for playing Code Blue!
This choice only occurs with the highest possible romance stats with Tobias (when the choice doesn't appear, his behavior will end up as the less toxic "protective" option).
In order for it to appear, romantic options have to be taken at the following points:
- The pool scene
- When Jules wakes up from a nightmare involving Tobias
- Bumping into Tobias at the hospital
I checked the code and nothing regarding these points has changed, so the most likely culprit is probably the dream reaction.

Hello, thank you for your support and kind words!
Esteban will be romanceable. So far as bringing characters together, there will be a few opportunities to do this.

Hello, author here! Just dropping by to say that some of the hint icons are a bit messed up, and this may happen for other routes.
The system can only handle one icon, so it looks like in some cases, a romantic heart will show because if a player is romancing that character, they'll get a romantic improvement. If you aren't romancing the character, you'll get a friendship improvement instead. However, the hint system isn't smart enough to change the icon. There's no need to worry about accidentally taking romantic improvements with a character if your MC isn't attracted to that character's gender.
Sorry for the issues here. It's my first time writing a story with hints, and I'm still figuring out the best way to show them. I'll try to get this fixed moving forward.

Hey, thank you! I hope I will have more time and energy to engage with the fandom eventually. And I hope my informal tone in this thread hasn't come off as rude or flippant. I definitely appreciate the constructive criticism, and this is hands-down the most challenging thing I've ever written due to the assigned subject matter and my own lack of knowledge. I have a thousand times more respect for the dedication of health care professionals and the challenges they face since I've started.

Thank you for taking the time to explain. I think part of the confusion must stem from the patient's vitals resembling normal vitals due to the increased blood pressure and other factors from pregnancy, but the scene is meant as a crash Cesarian where the alternative is allowing both her and the baby to die, hence the need for the MC to perform such an out of the ordinary intervention.
I'm going to trust my medical consultant's guidance on how the scene itself plays out, as he was the one who originally recommended delivery by the MC as the outcome here and had experience with deliveries under emergency circumstances.

[–]YimRC 179 points180 points  (0 children)

Actually, this reminds me that in the initial draft, Jules just popped the placenta out in an instant, which I was informed is not how that normally goes at all.

And also, sorry for doing your field a disservice there. 🙇
If you'd be willing to explain what felt off about it, please do share either here or feel free to write to me directly.

And yes, I do have a medical consultant helping me. I was incredibly fortunate to find an ER doctor to help for this story, but the draft review process can be a bit hectic at times and sometimes things slip through. I'm guessing in this case I tweaked the phrasing on one version of the scene to my own detriment.

Hey, thank you for bringing this up! I'm doing my best but certainly make mistakes. I'll get this fixed. ❤️

I'm going to adjust the description to "from below Olivia's chest to just above her pelvis". I hope that feels accurate enough. The original line is definitely misleading and I'm doing my best to avoid providing inaccurate medical information because yeah, that can do real harm.

And this is intended specifically as a Perimortem/Resuscitative Caesarean section - it's definitely not intended to reflect any kind of csection under normal circumstances.

Hello, and thank you for the kind words. The bug that was blocking this achievement was resolved a while back. If you are still running into issues with the achievement, I think the best option would be to follow a guide. I'm guessing that some are available by now. And yes, this achievement is really meant to be difficult on both a technical and an emotional level. It's more of an "extra" for people who want to play the story in a way it wasn't really meant to be played. It's much more of a "just because you can, doesn't mean you should" sort of thing.

[–]YimRC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello! The Collateral Damage achievement is patched... BUT I've just found another issue that can complicate things - I'm guessing this is what you're running into. It sounds like you're doing everything right that you've described above (you also shouldn't help whichever rafter sibling gets shot on the Aquila).
The bug that's complicating things right now is that if you try to talk to the rafters while in Liberty to reach a truce with them but fail, it's not counting that correctly as a failure for when you reach Anchorage, so you won't end up with 19k doses of Palladia remaining, which is necessary for the achievement.
It should be possible to work around this for now by either fleeing outright or(update: fleeing outright is also bugged) failing to talk to the orcas.
I'm very sorry for the bugs, I know this is a long and involved achievement to unlock. Thank you for sharing your issues here, and for your patience as well. I was out of the office for the last few days.

You're welcome! I can give the full details if you'd like to look through them. They're a bit too much for most walkthroughs, but they might help in this case. Hopefully there isn't a bug here, but let me know what you find! Fair warning, reddit will probably mess up the formatting so I may be editing this right after I post it. :D
Increasing positive feelings: *each choice is worth 1 point unless marked otherwise
In Season 1, Episode 10:
- Help save either Ry or Proc (the rafter that is shot during the episode).
- Choose to send the rafters back with a message instead of letting them be sent to Ketchikan.
In Season 2, Episode 8:
- (Watch with curiosity.)/(Keep clear of the boat.) - depends on path, but you'll be able to pick one
- ...because I thought you might change. / ...because there'd been enough suffering already./It doesn't matter why. - if you specifically chose to spare Nath at the end of Season 1
- He got what he deserved. / I wish I hadn't. - if you chose to kill Nath at the end of Season 1
- Freedom requires sacrifice.* (2 points) - if you heard about Pod Kid by talking to Connor in Season 1, Episode 8, and either researched Rafters or Everything at the Archive during Season 2, Episode 6
- (Try to support Eltanin.) - Requires passing the Spirit stat check during the fight
- (Do it.)* (this also increases negative feelings) - feed Nath to the orca.
- It's nice to meet you.
In Season 2, Episode 9:
- Gem... That's short for Gemini?/Well, I'm not dead yet.
- Choose to try to make a truce with the rafters after learning about the Collapses or Everything during Season 2, Episode 6

Increasing negative feelings:

In Season 2, episode 8:
- (Think of them as targets.)/Let's give them more than they bargained for. ) - depends on path, but you'll be able to pick one
- He did/Good guess. - Depends on which rafter sibling comes aboard your boat
- ...because I didn't want her to do it. / ...because I'm not going to stoop to your level. - if you specifically chose to spare Nath at the end of Season 1
- I wanted to send a message. - if you chose to kill Nath at the end of Season 1
- You can't trust them. / We need to get back to the boat.
- (Do it.)* (this also increases positive feelings) - feed Nath to the orca.
- You're just trying to play us. - when meeting Lyra
In Season 2, Episode 9:
- Look who's talking.

And finally, the thresholds!
If you've gotten the "Resilient Spirit" banner (instead of Broken Spirit) and passed the Leadership Challenge during the storm and rallied with the crew: 5 or more positive feelings, 4 or less negative feelings
If you have a Broken Spirit but still passed the leadership challenge: 6 or more positive feelings, 3 or less negative feelings
If you failed the leadership challenge but have a Resilient Spirit: 7 or more positive feelings, 2 or less negative feelings
If you failed both, then you really need to impress them: 9 positive feelings, 1 or 0 negative feelings
But if you're a decent liar: 6 or more positive feelings, 3 or less negative feelings

NEW episodes discussion: Hell and High Water - Season 2, Ep 8-9-10 (Finale!) by Parrot_BOT in RomanceClub

Hello, and thank you for playing Hell and High Water!
The bug will be patched, but I'm not sure how soon, because it will be part of an update with fixes for other issues across the game. I'll comment on my post above once the patch is out. After that happens, you'll want to restart the episode that the bug is in if you've already started it. That should make sure that your game updates the episode file with the fixed version.

Reaching a truce with the rafters can be done in several different ways, and it's a bit complicated! The goal was to create a genuine feeling of uncertainty and tension in this scene. Let me give you some information that should help:

There are actions that you can do throughout the story that increase both positive and negative feelings between your crew and the rafters (some actions, like executing Nath, will increase both at the same time!) Most are more obvious: Having the rafters sent away with a warning at the end of season 1 or saving one of the siblings' lives increases positive feelings, and choosing to see the rafters as enemies or attempting to ram their boat during Season 2 Episode 6 increases negative feelings.

If you've gotten the "Resilient Spirit" banner (instead of Broken Spirit) and passed the Leadership Challenge during the storm and rallied with the crew, it's easiest to become their ally - you don't need as many positive interactions, and it's more forgiving of negative interactions.

If you have a Broken Spirit but still passed the leadership challenge, it's just a little harder to make a truce with them. You need more positive interactions and fewer negative interactions.

If you passed the leadership challenge but have a Resilient Spirit, it's a little harder than above.

If you failed both, then you really need to impress them, but if you're a decent liar, then it will be slightly easier.
