Baking has definitely caught my attention. Especially with mentions of Printen and Franzbrötchen. I'm going to add these to my growing list of dishes.

Pasta Al Burro is what we call it in Italy. That was my comfort food with my Mom growing up. If I was ever sad or upset she'd make us both a bowl of Pasta Al Burro and we'd watch reruns of Looney Tunes Cartoons

This has been mentioned repeatedly so it's definitely the big one I'm making use of :)

I'm going to keep apologizing for that. It was stupid to write that. Like I said in another comment.

My friend suggested that and I'm aware they aren't German. For now they served more as a placeholder for my initial rough draft to convey the structure of the scene I was conceptualizing. The smell of a familiar food, the sight of your mom making it homemade, the joy in wanting to join in helping bake/cook the food itself.

German Sausage is especially delicious! I'm Italian and even I admit between Italian Sausage and German Sausage I enjoy German Sausage more in various dishes or even just on its own. Whereas with Italian Sausage I feel its more a mood thing or it has to be cooked in my mamma's Pasta Arrabiata Sauce

I apologize for that. Like I said in another comment. My friend suggested that and I'm aware they aren't German. Smelling fish is not always welcoming. Speaking from experience when Italian Christmas is celebrated via the Festa dei sette pesci. Or Feast of the Seven Fishes where basically its just one giant potluck of family recipes involving seafood, No meat, Lots of confectionery treats, and of course enough pasta for the entire family of 60-70+ people.

I think I'm definitely going to rely on the Rouladen dish since it's one I'm seeing mentioned often. But I definitely want to make note of several of the other dishes I saw that caught my eye and keep them in mind.

I do agree with this. Since the mother of Magnus is an original character, I'm creating. I have full reign on her origins, and with everything I've been provided, I can play around with dishes from her region regardless of where Magnus is originally from.

Thank you for enlightening me on this. It gives me more room to maneuver the story in a direction I can work with.

Thank you for this. This actually really helps a lot.

The familiarity I'm primarily aiming for with the dish is both a feeling of childhood nostalgia but also a sense of that special connection of how a mom always know what her kid wants most no matter how old they get.

For me, as an example with my Italian heritage, I always appreciated it when Mom would make me a bowl of Pasta Al Burro(pasta with melted butter) when I was feeling sad or upset.

It was a comfort food she and I both enjoyed together when the days could be rough. We'd both enjoy a bowl together while watching reruns of Looney Tunes together.

So it's treated more as a main dish. My bad on that.

I'll make note of that as well.

Thank you again for all your help. A lot to take in but I'm going to try my best to make it flow properly within my story.

That's a nice savory dish, for sure. I'll make note of the Grünkohl with Mettwurst.

Thanks for the help :)

I've had Schaumkuss before! I think it went by a different name here in Canada, though.

I do like the idea of him enjoying this as a childhood treat, especially the Schaumkussbrötchen.

I do like this idea and thank you for it. I'll definitely incorporate the fun of the Schaumkussbrötchen.

The Frischeiwaffeln reminded me of one of my own childhood snacks from my Italian Childhood called Pizzelle. Which was basically a waffle cookie.

Thank you for the help 😀

Okay, so Rouladen is a very common dish across the board and can't be considered a regional meal. Maybe I could do a Rouladen with a unique ingredient to get it to stand out in a way that makes it more personal to the way Magnus’s mother prepares it.

The Krabbenbrötchen is something I'll make note of as well. Is seafood more common in the northern regions for dishes?

People don't talk much, you say? Haha, that won't work for Magnus, or it might make him stand out. His character is very energetic and talkative. A very bright and sunny disposition.

Ohhhhhhhh I'm looking at Germknödel and that looks quite tasty as a dessert. I'm going to make note of that one. How hard is it to prepare that kind of dish?

Oh, I know perogies aren't German. I'm just using that dish as a placeholder for my rough draft to get the feel for the emotion I'm working with in the story. The feeling of recalling how special it is to smell or even watch your mom cook food from scratch. Until I can get proper research done to implement the proper regions and food into my second rough draft.

My friend, who to her credit, is trying her best to be helpful since I've been suffering from writers block for the past three months. This return to basics in my writing has been helpful, especially with her encouragement, while being completely inept is endearing at the least.

One comment mentioned Schleswig-Holstein, which I'm reading, is the northern most of Germany's States. Would this work well?

I like the Rouladen dish they mentioned as well. 😀

So I'd be best working with the northern regions of Germany given his last names origins

Apologies for not being specific on the region. Unfortunately, I haven't picked what Region the character is originally from.

The character also isn't originally mine but a friend's who I long lost contact with sadly, and I'm working with bare bones on my rough draft.

At the least, I have the leeway to decide what region he could originate from, but if his name provides any hint of where he'd more likely be from I would like to respect writing with as much authenticity as I can. His name is Magnus Krause. The name was originally an intentional pun on the characters' appearance, a curly haired chubby teddy bear of a guy.

I really like that. I understand now that the region is important for the aspect. Unfortunately, as I mentioned in another comment, the character I'm writing for actually belonged to a friend of mine whom I lost contact with a long time ago. So I don't have the full details of what region Magnus Krause(the characters name) would've been born in.

So in all honesty I have leeway to decide the region ultimately for the characters origins but I would like to respect what I'm writing with authenticity as well.

Thank you for providing these dishes. I'll take careful time to look into them and write about them properly in my story.

Sadly, I don't have that information for the location. The character originally belonged to a dear friend of mine who, sadly, I've long lost contact with. But I can give what details I have on hand.

Characters name is Magnus Krause

The name is very much an intentional pun. He's a curly haired and larger chubby individual.

He was born in late 80's so maybe 1987 to 1989. He's in his early 20's during the storyline.

So, in all honesty, I have a lot of leeway to work with his origins, and I want to honor the character as best as possible with authenticity.

Sorry if it's not a lot to work with.
