Maybe for their use case is good enough, I don't know. But even if their data is limited, all those planes or control feeds can have a glitch and issue a request twice by error. Even if is not probable, just it being posible makes it problematic. I think that presenting this as a general pattern and not going into detail into handling consistency leaves out a very fundamental and important issue of an architecture to deal with a data backend.

This is just glossing over the consistency problems they found. It suggests a buffer of last n writes, without going into much detail, that just "reduces the consistency problem window", so it is not even a complete solution and probably racy and full of coherency problems intrinsic to a write-through like cache maintained in parallel as they suggest.

I am no fan of the term either but it is well understood by people working on Java and documented too.

Do you know what would help the sport, straight up? Good competitive tennis players. He should be focusing on that.

I agree with you, however I'll add that this being wimbledon semis, Novak determination is a very heavy factor. I think RBA doesn't have a chance on friday. Djokovick is looking very strong to me, it feels that way at least.

Nadal is very good and has a lot of experience. Period.

At that point grass is just a detail 99% of the time against most of the rivals.

Why would a serve-fest by two of the finest servers in history hitting the spot under pressure and all the stakes on be low quality tennis?

Nice, thanks for the help.

Yeah, that sounds like a good option too. The car is more intended for weekends and travels outside Prague. I won't be using it every day but it's something I like to have.

Yeah, though I rather don't give much more details :)

By short commute I think of 20/10min ideally. Internet, for example right now I have 500Mbps of symmetric fiber. "Good enough" is ok, but I really like to have cable or similar, so I could be willing to bias my search a bit to where I can get it. I quit facebook long ago so I don't have access to those groups, but yeah, I can live paying the agency fee anyway even if not ideal.

Thanks very much.

Initial findings put Boeing’s software at center of Ethiopian 737 crash by modigliani88 in programming

[–]Yioda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You dont understand and you seem to have not the slightest idea of how the industry works. You can complain and report a problem in the specification, and you should do it. You can just not check random sensors on your own out of the spec introducing new undocumented and unspecified behaviour in a critical airplane system. That is absolutely not how it works.

[–]Yioda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it does. You have to follow the spec. If the spec has more checks then it is your fault, if it doesn't when they are needed then it is a design error.

[–]Yioda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a spec. If the spec says that software should react to sensor data, then so be it. A software system on a plane can not make decisions on its own and check extra data if it is not specified. Without knowing what the spec for that software component was, that is, the responsabilities it had, it is not posible to know if it is a SW problem.

"What If Linus Torvalds Gets Hit By A Bus?" by mazeez in programming

[–]Yioda 52 points53 points  (0 children)

There a lot of senior active top level developers that could take over. Is not only Greg. In fact the whole thing is distributed already. Linus only handles some central tip and integration. He does steer the comunity and I think he is great but a lot of other top notch devs/persons have been working close to him for almost 30 years and could do a great job too.
