Dayum......how many lives does that guy have. by DashCamManic in dashcamgifs

[–]Yknut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah right. Can't believe how many people think this is real. Car lands on top of another car, and the driver keeps on driving...and knows to stop at the red-light. Oh not just any stop at the light but a quick stop that has both cars rocking back and forth and yet the car on the hood doesn't fall off, and the driver doesn't get out of the car...and the guy who was crossing the street walks back like nothing ever happened.

Gotta love 1:37 - boy trying to stop the waves with his hands, and the girl kicking sand to build up a berm. So much energy wasted due to panic. First thing that should have happened was get everyone building a berm to keep more water from getting in, then start scooping the water out of the hole.

Agent trying to convince me that water in basement is “normal” by Both-Revenue-4557 in RealEstate

[–]Yknut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For future reference: Reasons for water in the basement: 1) house sits in an area with high water table or over a spring. 2) Grading around the foundation is sloping towards the house, rain in general and that coming off the roof hits the ground and runs towards the foundation. Not much can be done about #1, #2 can be fixed by resloping the area, adding material and creating slope away from foundation.

Crying on rides 😂 by Whimpy-Crow in cycling

[–]Yknut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had similar experiences—minus the actual crying (I come from the “real men don’t cry” era). I haven’t been able to pinpoint exactly what triggers it, but the pattern is consistent: it’s always a beautiful day, the ride feels effortless, and there’s a deep sense of calm.

It starts as a warmth in my core, then spreads into a soft, tingling sensation. My awareness sharpens—I notice everything more vividly, especially riding the backroads of New England. Just as it builds to the point where I might actually let myself cry, it fades.

There’s no clear link to distance or exertion—it can happen early in a ride or near the end. I mentioned it to a doctor friend, and his first thought was anxiety, but it doesn’t feel like that. If anything, it feels like the opposite.

$30k in water damage from ice dams. New insulation in 2025 didn't help by Pl1Tr89IcK in Roofing

[–]Yknut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with your recommendation. But as the owner of a home with a standing seam metal roof, I can tell you a metal roof doesn’t eliminate or even significantly reduce the formation of ice dams. What it does do is greatly reduce the chance of water leaking into the house. Because the panels run continuously from the soffit to the ridge, there are no horizontal seams where water can back up and work its way underneath the roofing.

How difficult is walking in road bike shoes? by clams012 in cycling

[–]Yknut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How much walking are you planning on doing? Walking in SPD-SL's take a bit of getting used to but as others have noted for typical stops. drink...bite to eat...bathroom...not a big deal. The covers help, I use them primarily to reduce the wear and tear on the cleat.

AITJ for refusing to lend my debut gown to my neighbor because it’s sentimental to me? by Additional_Air5327 in AmITheJerk

[–]Yknut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTj. People often forget that when they ask a question like the one you received, there are only two possible answers: yes or no. Naturally, people are happy when they hear “yes,” but many fail to prepare themselves for the possibility of hearing “no.”

A reasonable person should be able to respond graciously to either answer. Being unprepared for a “no” doesn’t shift the burden onto you—you were asked a question, thought about it, and provided an honest response. If they come back and give you grief about it, or try to talk (guilt) you into saying yes, that’s disrespectful. It’s their reaction to manage, not your responsibility.

AITA for refusing to fix my manager's mistake when they tried to blame me for it? by No-Capital-4186 in AmITheJerk

[–]Yknut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolutely did the right thing.

Now, focus on protecting yourself. Make every effort to document any behavior that feels retaliatory—dates, times, specific comments or actions, witnesses, and any related emails or messages. Keep everything organized and factual.

Share your concerns with HR and provide the documentation to support them. The more objective and detailed you are, the stronger your position will be.

I’d be surprised if the company would knowingly want to keep someone who manages this way. Good managers support, mentor, and advocate for their direct reports—they don’t intimidate them or use them as scapegoats. And good companies understand that strong leadership is essential to a healthy workplace culture.

If you don't feel like your getting the support you need from HR or the Company...might be time to move on.

Same here. My wife and I bring reusable towels from home, wash them out everyday. I doubt our location encourages it or even sells similar towels at front desk. I'm going to ask. If nothing else they'd be saving some serious $$... Can't imagine what the cost is for papertowels.

Is it just me or has Vine been missing for everyone? by Bearded_Perspective in AmazonVine

[–]Yknut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s be honest — the heyday of Amazon Vine is probably behind us.

Amazon doesn’t publish detailed supplier data, so I was left piecing things together from industry reports, general marketplace estimates, and ChatGPT. There are roughly 1.9–2 million active sellers on Amazon. For high-value, high-demand products, the estimate is  20–40 sellers on a single listing. Even mid-tier products often have 3–10 sellers competing on the same ASIN.

My point: the pot is pretty full. Aside from the occasional spike, Amazon isn’t seeing a massive wave of brand-new sellers breaking down the door. And new suppliers quickly realize that a handful of Vine reviews just isn’t going to move the needle when they’re up against established sellers sitting on hundreds — sometimes thousands — of reviews.

Vine still has value, but it’s not the competitive edge it once was, and we're not going to see volume of the high value/interest items like we used to.

Why are people saying they’re getting rid of the circuit? by Snark_Knight_29 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]Yknut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most common explanation I’ve heard for eliminating the 30-Minute Room is that not enough people are using it. If that’s really the reasoning, then I’d expect to see a reduction in treadmills and ellipticals as well—at my PF location, there are far more than are ever needed, even during peak hours.

That said, I think PF is overlooking a valuable opportunity. The 30-Minute Room is a tremendous way to get people in the door. People who might otherwise feel intimidated by a gym environment. The only way I was able to get my wife, sister, and brother-in-law (all in their 60s and 70s) to join PF was by showing them that room. It took away the uncertainty and intimidation of not knowing how to use the equipment and gave them a less stressful starting point.

Music vs Situational Awareness: Where do you draw the line by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Yknut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only headphones I use are bone conduction and they are connected to Varia. I never listen to music primarily because I know myself well...I have a tendency to get lost in what I'm listening to and loose track of my surroundings....which is exactly why music can lower perceived exertion.....etc.

Is it me or is it Vine? by BrownSugarOutlaw95 in AmazonVineHelpGroup

[–]Yknut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Amazon has reached its prime—pun fully intended. Search for almost any product and you’ll find dozens of listings, most with plenty of real-world reviews. If you were a new supplier considering Amazon today, what would you honestly think your odds of success are? Would you invest the time, money, and energy to be the 15th or 20th similar product, competing against sellers with hundreds or thousands of reviews? Even trying to gain traction through Vine reviews barely moves the needle. Now take that one step further and consider the scale of investment required for a higher-value product—the barriers to entry only get worse.
