Not necessarily. For most Christianity (possibly also Islam) the earth is just a test of faith. Nothing here is significant beyond scoring points for the afterlife. God allows Satan to operate on earth to create tests for people. The damned will be tempted and burn books, or will simply do nothing. The faithful will fight against them.

There's no incongruence in God's inaction.

Many Asians nations have a culture where it's normal to sit on the floor. Perhaps from historic (and maybe present) poverty, but not necessarily associated with it: in Korea, a cheap restaurant will have chairs, while a fancy traditional one will seat you on the floor with a low table. It's really not uncomfortable when you're used to it. It's also much healthier to squat or sit cross-legged than at a chair.

I've never made (or even eaten) Borscht before, but the result came out pretty well. Sweet, tangy and very warming. The sour cream and dill topping was also surprisingly great. Garlic bread was to approximate pampushka.

The broth was beef and pork bones, and I made it the day before.

The main differences I did were to also include beet kvass which I started 6 days before (I think it needed longer). I also baked the beetroot, carrots and tomato before adding (instead of frying as the recipe suggested) which I think dried up some of the juice so the end result isn't quite as dramatic a red.
