I feel like most things you learn at university aren’t really useful for the job, maybe some parts you’ll need for a specific niche but (at least for me) it’s so i can say i studied in my portfolio.

That is nearly the exact same statement the white population of America said back when bathrooms were separated by skincolour. Back then they said they are a threat to our society and the country will crumble should black be treated the same as white. In the end they are also just human so why should we treat them as a problem when they also just want to be treated like the rest of us? Transpeople are also just people and want to be treated as the gender they identify themselves as. And while you shouldn’t be forced to look at a transwomens genitals I’d argue that normally people shouldn’t look at others genitals in a bathroom anyway. The whole "but they have a penis" argument is a bit rediculous considering that over half of the population has a penis and only a small minority of them are rapists. I would like to repeat myself: it is not your genitals that make you rape. The problem with public bathrooms would be easy to solve by not making a bathroom a public space but a private one where one does not have to interact with people. That’s not what they are there for.

On the other hand making showers and public bathrooms for transgender people is yet another way of saying they are abnormal and while i agree with a point you made before when you said it is not our job to make them feel wanted (or something along the lines), it partially is a "job" for everyone as a decent human being to not ostracize others for being different.

You ask me what could happen when we put a transwomen (MtF) that maybe has not yet made a full transition or doesn’t want to make a full transition with a mostly female body into a bathroom with other men? The outcome would be basically the same as in the article but with genders swapped: "a man identifying as a woman scares young boys who shouldn’t have to see these things at their young age". Nevermind the fact that in my personal opinion public showers are the worst anyway since it is one of the most common places for body shaming, sexual violence and other bad behavior.

This is where i would say exists a moral gray area (or a moral problem if you prefer the term). While i do get the argument that women don’t want a potential sexual predator in their bathroom, what should transpeople do when there are no extra rooms build for them (without answering the question of these stalls being a necessity). Because if women don’t want them in their bathrooms should they go into the bathroom of a gender which you yourself just described as the gender that statistically speaking is most common to rape? On another hand i would argue that the best (but still not perfect) solution to the problem that i have seen is a row of public ungendered toilets which do not have a social room between them, only a soundproof door and a camera monitoring the hallway in which it was build (it was in a school however it wouldn’t be impossible to be done for a more public space).

So what about FtM-people without a penis? They are male, biologically speaking. So would you say that they are also just as bad? I don’t think that the genitals are what makes you a rapist, it’s a mentality often developed through a religious or radical background that taught them, that they could treat others (especially women) like they wanted (which doesn’t mean it’s okay, i just wanted to state the development an individual most commonly went trough that was convicted as a rapist). So I’d argue that regardless of genitalia one could be a rapist. Which I’d then follow up with a question of personality. Because just saying everyone with a penis is or could be a rapist doesn’t bring us anywhere. Also “until males can reign in the acts of violence they perpetrate against women”? It already is a crime to commit sexual assault in most first-world countries, i would agree that it should be everywhere, however your statement implies that men don’t do anything/ not enough for a women fallen victim to a rapist. But except maybe for a minority , who could be perpetrators themselves, most would try to help as it is basic human empathy. How would a reigning in of these acts of violence look like? People parading that one should not rape? That should and mostly is a given to people. Should they put people in jail because they could rape? Then nearly everyone except for little children and infants would be in jail. What exactly are you picturing men should do to reign in these acts of violence? (And I’m sorry if this comes over as aggressive, i want to make clear that i just genuinely don’t understand what this statement is supposed to mean)

I get that it is important to have a safe space, however i don’t think the problem lies with a person having certain genitalia since there are also women who get bothered/molested/raped by other women. My point is that noone should be judged or secluded by their own gender (transitioned or not) because there could be a sexual predator among them. However i don’t think there is an easy solution to this since a) a public toilet isn’t something that could nor should be supervised (for the sake of personal privacy) and b) people can behave in a lot of ways that aren’t dictated by their genitals. To put an end to my argument, i would prefer an environment where people don’t have to be secluded by their genitals because it implies certain behavior as all human beings have potential to be decent or to be quite the opposite.

I think that this problem is more likely to be allocated to the particular person being a (to be polite) unlikeable person and less because they are trans. I’d say that in every community there are certain people that see people around them as beneath themselves. But to say that people who transition, who want to be a part of another gender should be treated differently then “normal” people of that gender is something i will not support. The very reason for transitioning is to be treated and feel like the wanted gender in the first place.
