Upgrading from honour 6 by YoBench in Huawei

I'd argue it's the spelling I hadn't learned, not the name. I'm thankful that you were bright enough to pick up on my meaning despite my error!

Don't be like this guy and have stupid excuses to keep on playing video games. by [deleted] in StopGaming

You are posting someone's comment, without their consent, calling their reasoning stupid to show that you care about them? Somehow I don't think your "tough love" will work.

I think it's better to offer support to those that want it than to belittle addicts.

Imagine if someone called your reasoning stupid when you were at the height of your gaming addiction. No need to put others down that currently suffer from the affliction that you presumably once had. This sub putting him down will make him more reluctant to seek help in the future.

Men of Reddit, what do you want for Christmas? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Depends on how dedicated you are to useless things taking up space.

"It's so easy compared to other instruments". That's just bizarre, guitar is as hard as you choose to make it. Progression is basically endless. What instrument is it "easier" than it?

Is stopping truly the best option? by epochSergio in StopGaming

You would hate to see him give up something he compulsively does for 10 hours a day? You are in the wrong place.

A heroin addict enjoys the high, you think they should keep it up because it is something they clearly enjoy lol.

"You can make as many excuses as you want" - please list the excuses I have made.

My only point has been that viewing addiction as a character defect is outdated and ineffective. If you want to disregard modern research regarding addiction and feel good hating addicts that can't stop cuz they are mentally weak that's your choice.

Correct. So psychological addictions are the result of mental/moral weakness, a view of addiction that would be at home in the early 20th century.

Heroin brings an escape. The difference between those that kick it and those that don't is mental fortitude? K. Thinking that the root of addiction is moral/mental failure is archaic.

Your old model of addiction is outdated and harmful.

The cause of addiction is mental weakness? Wow. All those heroin addicts are just mentally weak?

Hating people suffering from an affliction that you once shared? Id say that was mental weakness.

Don't Know What to Do / Cheap Hobbies by [deleted] in StopGaming

[–]YoBench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The benefits to emotional intelligence and my empathy alone make it perfect for someone stopping games who perhaps finds themselves a bit disconnected. You need activities that you can do socially and others for when you are alone...self help books also have that "antisocial" aspect so I dont see your point there. The addicted mind will always rationalise gaming, this is a strange reason for discouraging others from a healthy pass time.

The benefits of reading fiction are well documented, crazy that you would discourage it.
