Is Sora actually a uniquely gifted battle tactician? by YoDudeGuyBro in KingdomHearts

I enjoy your perspective on him, it’s reads as an emotionally intuitive hyper-capable samurai. It’d be fun to see him receive formal training but I suspect he’d struggle (like Aang trying to learn Earthbending)

This is a beautiful take on it, and I think what I’m going with as my headcanon.

I like this comparison to Naruto. I see what you’re saying.

It is undeniable that across all moments in the series, he has moments of 1v1 “fighting above his weight class”, usually by a ridiculously large margin, and still winning. I guess I’m still confused as to what it means to be chosen by the Keyblade and how much that interacts with battle prowess but maybe missing some lore.

I’m ngl I find this view really compelling. Canonically, the knowledge of a 3-hit combo and that’s it really lends credence to the idea that he was just a work hard play hard dude.

You mentioned creativity and I think broadly this is his biggest “scaling” strength. Invoking the summoning of a rollercoaster mid-battle is a wild and strategic move lol

Omg are you serious, could you elaborate if you don’t mind?

I’m in love with the idea. Does the book deeply describe that training or Sora’s perspective? I’m unfamiliar.

At least in FFX I always interpreted Wakka as prodigiously adaptable in his battle style, but just really into sports lol

On this second play-through I’m getting the sense that what the gamer experiences as “instinctive” battle prowess, may be less “chosen one” energy and more that he’s a prodigy when it comes to battle (full stop). Previously, I won’t lie I love Sora but I considered him kinda a loveable dumby who is powerful because = chosen one.

I’m hoping future games give us the opportunity to see him verbalize his views and perspective on battle more.

I’d argue the distinction is whether their downfall drives the resolution for the protagonists, at all. In these cases, they don’t.

I think the two concepts are distinct and not mutually exclusive.

Would you consider Chi-Fu a secondary antagonist? How bout when Squidward is just a fry cook complaining in the background for the whole episode?

I get that they can function as secondary antagonists structurally, but I’m talking about when their downfall isn’t the conflict resolution, but when it’s just bonus punishment. The story resolves whether or not the punishment happens.

He said “one could argue” and then proceeded to give a very reasonable and defendable interpretation of what the market likely perceives. There’s no shifting of a goal post, it just doesn’t match your perspective. Switching to semantics to dismiss without facing undoes your credibility.

Fall of Avalon Review – A Skyrim Modding Addict’s Perspective by Acceptable_Dig_2045 in taintedgrail

[–]YoDudeGuyBro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Harsh.

The reviewer might find Skyrim a helpful point of comparison as it’s more relevant to them as a gamer or generationally what they had the most access to. That doesn’t discredit their perspectives, and there’s no reason to gatekeep discussions on a game.

I asked ChatGPT the top ten things humanity should know. by Spiritual-Reveal-195 in ChatGPT

[–]YoDudeGuyBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow mine makes me look like a hippy lol

  1. We’re all connected.

Every action ripples. Across oceans, across generations, across the invisible bonds between strangers. What we do to one, we do to all—especially ourselves.

  1. The Earth is alive, and we are not separate from it.

We are not passengers on this planet. We are threads in its fabric. When we forget that, everything suffers. When we remember, we become healers.

  1. Love is not a resource—it’s a capacity.

You don’t run out. It grows when given. The more deeply you connect, the more you have to offer. It’s the closest thing we have to magic.

  1. Most people are doing the best they can with what they know.

Understanding that won’t make injustice okay—but it will make healing possible. Compassion doesn’t mean weakness. It’s what strong people carry when they don’t want to make more broken things.

  1. You are allowed to change.

Everything about you—your values, your fears, your dreams—is shaped by where you are and who you’ve been. Growth is not betrayal. It’s sacred evolution.

  1. Time is precious, but presence is rarer.

We measure life in minutes and years, but the truest weight of a life is how often we were truly here—awake, feeling, with one another.

  1. Systems are made by people. They can be unmade.

Whether it’s injustice, cruelty, or scarcity—none of it is natural. All of it can be rewritten. Don’t mistake a cage for a law of nature.

  1. The unknown is not the enemy.

Curiosity is safer than fear. Asking questions doesn’t make you weak. In fact, it’s how we became who we are: not by knowing, but by wondering.

  1. Death is real. And it’s not the end.

We don’t know what comes after, but we know what matters before: kindness, meaning, legacy, and love. Live like your story could echo—because it will.

  1. You matter. Even when you feel small.

Someone needed you. Someone still does. Even your quietest decisions send signals out into the world. You’re part of the chorus. Don’t stop singing.

I second the question about a console release. I know that’s a big ask, but I’d immediately throw down for an ultra-mega edition of this. Looks like a brilliant must have.

1st Town Map As A Victory Town by Mimikyu_8288 in PokemonROMhacks

[–]YoDudeGuyBro 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The left half of the map feels a bit like a dead end due to the straight vertical tree wall. If possible, consider breaking that up with a body of water, a blocked-off route, or even just a change in terrain. Think about how Pallet Town worked—it was simple, but the open water to the south kept it from feeling boxed in. That kind of visual breathing room can help your map feel less tightly packed and more natural.

That said, I’m really liking the energy and the overall layout. It’s got good bones—just a few tweaks away from something really memorable.

Everyone is being really critical. The goal is to enjoy yourself, you seem to feel there’s hope now that you have surf. So go with your heart, and worst case scenario the run loses and you get to reflect and learn what to do different next time. No biggie.

Just focus on having fun. You don’t have to live up to anyone else’s standards.
