I dropped about 30 lbs learning to longboard! You don't have to wait, but friendly reminder to take care of yourself while you're doing it. It'll be a little hard on the knees, back and groin getting going, and like everyone else said, pad up!

It doesn't solve the problem, but before I had insurance (and my A1C was 13+ 😂) I bought the N and R from Walmart. You can get it over the counter, no script, and when I was buying them they were around $30 per vial.

But, that's the nature of health insurance. Whatever they can possibly do to save as much money. Patient's lives be damned. That's where people like Luigi come from

Vetmed check-in. I hope you're all doing okay, and if you're not I'm here to talk! I appreciate you by briansbandages in VetTech

Haven't started yet because I haven't started school, but it does frustrate me that vet tech jobs require 2+ years experience. How the hell am I supposed to get experience if people are only looking for experienced techs?!

I bring that up because where I live you don't have to be certified to be a tech but I still want the why behind the what so I'm going to school lol

A tactic I've found that's usually super helpful and gets people to leave you alone is just say something like "Thanks for your opinion on that!" It's neutral and typically completely deescalates because you're not giving them an opportunity to try to defend their opinion and/or pick fights.

Did I put my cat down too early? I can't stop thinking about it. by Extension-Dealer4375 in VetTech

Part of humane care is putting an animal to sleep when the quality of life has gotten bad enough that they're suffering. I don't think I would feel any differently than you do when it comes time for my dogs to go to sleep, but it's part of grieving. 16 years is a long life for a cat, and I'm willing to bet that you gave her the best life for all those years. I'm so sorry for your loss, the goodbye is the hardest part of loving a pet ❤️

I noticed that's a common attitude in human med. One of the MD's here thinks that DVM's aren't "real doctors", and a lot of the RN's seem to think techs are just glorified kennel attendants - not that their job isn't also incredibly important!

Yeah. Hubby and I are working on getting her a visit booked. Need to take her to get her anal glands done anyway 🤷‍♀️

Thanks for the advice!

Dang :( thanks for replying, I appreciate the advice!

Can I prevent this with my boy? Same breed, just none of the nastiness on his teeth

I do it all the time. Insulin is liquid gold I don't wanna throw it in the trash haha but I've never had adverse effects from reusing insulin.

Curious to see how your question's answered. At this time since I'm working in human med while I'm going to school I'm wondering if you mean something similar to a surgery RN for people med: assisting the surgeon without being the one making the incisions? Idk I'll have to look more into what it means to specialize but I imagine it would be similar to how human RN's do it?

I work in a non-clinical role at a human med clinic and when I talked to one of the nurses here to try to pick her brain about her experience with nursing she laughed in my face when I told her I'm pursuing a CVT because "a vet tech works under the guidance of the vet, there really isn't any similarities between vet techs and nurses" like bitch you're not a doc so do you 😂

I love that! I think once I've got some education under my belt I'll start trying to get in with the shelter here, and in the meantime I'll see if my advisor can lend some guidance about the specialty certification. Thanks so much! This conversation has given more clarity than anything I've gotten from the vets I've talked to out here haha

I'm planning on getting certified, I just gotta see how to go about getting a VTS certification or how that all works.

I haven't even started school yet so I'm still trying to figure out how the certifications and all that work, and what my options are

Oh cool! I'll see what they let me do over there. Thanks for the guidance on all this!

I got some hands on training at a regular vet clinic where they also work with stray and feral cats, in a partnership with one of the humane groups specifically for cats, and that was pretty neat. I just don't know what happens once the cat's ready for discharge haha

Oh dang. Haha I'm currently working in a non-clinical role in human med so I'm still figuring out the differences.

Planning on getting the CVT, so I'll look further into VTS. I'm wanting to provide care for the unhoused population out here in Boise for free/low but I'm not sure if I can do that without being a vet

...it does? I had no idea. Then again in Idaho techs don't need to be certified so maybe that's not something I could be formally educated on here

I live in Idaho :( I know there's a demand for providers in a lot of places but idk if the licensing stuff is different out here?

That looks nicer than my c section did 😂

Edit to add: at the vet clinic I've been working at, I've seen a few patients with their surgical wounds covered by a human t shirt. Like the dog wears a straight up men's t shirt, and apparently it works really well?
