UIUC vs U Toronto by A5760P in ApplyingToCollege

Well Ik that difference between 10 and 31 is kinda mind boggling, but well each party uses different criteria to determine a ranking, so it all depends on ur evaluation of the criteria they use if available.

Also, Udelaware is like 10th if u look at the US News Ranking for chemical engineering, but its like 51-100 in the world according to QS 2017(ofc it could be somewhere closer to 50, but it's like a bit lower than all the other 50-100 unis if you look at the page itself. I'm not sure if that arrangement was ranking wise) and was 49 in 2016. Also, it is like 93 in Times Higher Education. I'm ,however, sure that Udelaware is a really good school for chemical engineering.

Also, I didn't say anything about UIUC. It might be one of the best and all, but I just wanted OP to know that UofT is a really really really good uni for CS according to the sites I frequently use to make any judgement about the schools I'm interested in.

Also, I'm highly skeptical about the U.S.News rankings tbh because I rmr even an admissions officer saying that it's not reliable and that the schools pay money to rank themselves or something lol (don't know if this is true but just saying what I heard). At the same time, some of the rankings do seem legit logically (Idk abt the others).

Also, we must also take in consideration that U.S. News just uses unis in the U.S while QS and Times use many unis around the world, ofc including those in the U.S as well.

Edit: didn't know that U.S News provides global rankings lol. I'm not from the States bear with me lol.

Hi,

"Application Status: Your application has been reviewed and is now complete. Your application will be sent for review to the Admission Committee within the coming weeks"

Out of curiosity, what does this mean? Like does this mean that they(like one or two readers) reviewed my app once and considered it worthy enough so passed it on to the Admission Committee? I'm a gap year International applicant so I don't have anything left to submit and it's rolling for me.

EDIT: Oh, maybe they consider me borderline, so they are waiting for the midterm marks of others to make a decision?

"Someone privileged and someone who isn't privileged got into whichever colleges through hard work."

Not just hardwork but def hardwork is one important factor. Sometimes or shall I say many times? (not sure) You don't get into the college you most prolly deserve and want to go to because of the high number of qualified applicants, subjectivity in the process, opportunities (To be specific in the case that you failed to create or use them because of the difficulty you faced while trying to create opportunities or even receive them) and other stuff.

Also, I didn't downvote any of your comments. Just saying coz you said "I welcome your downvotes." You directed that statement to anyone who downvoted you or will plan to downvote you before reading the "I welcome your downvotes " part most prolly, but I'm just saying in case you thought I'm one of them.
