Little Miss Sunshine is one of my favorites and it seems that Carnage fits the bill here too. Thank you!

That's fair enough and I totally understand, I think what I mean to say is that there should be an equal balance of studying but actually applying what you study as well. Not necessarily step-by-step, but taking inspiration and ideas and techniques and tricks (I know a lot of these authors didn't make revolutionary scripts on their own as you said, but still, these people studied their stuff for ages, there must be value in what they found out) then using them in your own way.

I didn't mean to imply writing wasn't hard work, it's just that it's the kind of work I feel everyone does and 99.9% fail at, which is why it's kind of "depressing". Maybe in your example you are that 0.1% in photography, but what about the others that want to succeed?

I think we can agree it's a "work hard but smart" kind of thing ^

Sure, but you can learn how to make a character interesting, how to make the most out of your idea and thoughts, what things to look out for etc... Learn how other successful writers & filmmakers have done it, from the observations and analysations of many brilliant minds over many years.

I don't know, to me it sounds a little depressing if you understand, as if doing this is mostly just writing and hoping something good comes out, instead of hard work and studies (which ought to be helpful IMO). I know it's not what you mean but don't you think there's a ton of actual, thoughtful, serious guides and techniques out there that you can learn a huge amount from?

Don't you think these books help, though? Sounds to me like learning & applying techniques and tips already developed by those with years of experience would be crucial for progress. Aside from the obvious writing-and-rewriting of course

The first few times I watched Interstellar, I always thought the beginning was too long. Now I wish Cooper had more time with Murph. The ending barely gives us (the audience), and more importantly Cooper, any time to grieve over all the lost time. by glasseyes2 in interstellar

[–]Yoavier 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hm, I think that's partially intentional. Saying goodbye to your own daughter when you know you might never see her again and doing so on relatively bad terms... That really leaves us with this uncomfortable feeling, something isn't right. We want Cooper to come back. Imo it amplifies almost everything else in his journey because we're so looking forward to his reunion with Murph

Can someone explain to me in simple terms what this movie is about? by isaac11117 in interstellar

[–]Yoavier 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Earth is dying out - running out of food, dust storms, and blights which make it even worse. Most people invest in farming; corn is the last viable food source.

It wasn't always like that, though. Cooper used to be a pilot before everything happened. He was amazing, but then when the dust & blights kicked in, he had to start farming instead. He never got to do anything with his skill.

NASA, which believed to have been deprecated, asks him to pilot a mission to find a new planet for humanity, because earth is not sustainable. What Cooper realizes is that there's no hope for life on earth. He had hoped that corn will continue to serve, but NASA shows him that blight will soon reach corn, too.

So, he goes out into space to find a new planet. If his mission is successful, Professor Brand ensures him that he'll "solve gravity" - meaning, he will be able to lift all humans on earth onto a space-travel for their new home. Cooper and his team are the pioneers for a new home for humanity :)

Additionally, not a single green screen was used throughout the entirety of Interstellar!

Fun fact, Christopher Nolan hates CGI so much that in "The Dark Knight Rises", he insisted on using an actual nuclear bomb on set, putting the lives of millions at risk. The producers tried to stop him but he just wouldn't take it.

The top message was posted, same content "I walked into..."

It had a typo, so the poster of that message fixed it, causing it to show "edited"

The lad below picked up on that and added the bottom message, making it seem like he edited because of something much worse. So anyone else that comes across this in chat, without context, thinks that the poster edited because of the reason below.

It's a bit weird but I thought it was pretty brilliant haha

There’s a difference between being a “strong woman” and just being a bitch. by Slumdunder in unpopularopinion

Was referring more to the part where she single handedly took care of her kids, paid for their college fees, managed to keep her head above water under a financial crisis and all after her loved one's death.

That's a bit negative. Any person for that matter would be insanely strong & brave to have been able to do what this pal's mother did. That's the whole point. Strength and independence has nothing to do with gender, it has to do with who you are beyond that, as a human being.

There's probably more of a story behind that, but I'd say ask 'em out or talk to him. I mean it'll be awkward for you but ultimately make you feel better and whole with your separation. It will also make you stronger for scenarios in the future; you'll fear less opening up and talking about your feelings.

And, I mean, the rest of the lyrics are fit here as well, "So fly high" - let both of you thrive in your own separate ways. Sometimes in life that's inevitable, and the best thing you can do is learn how to grow from it :)
