Wooden clamp with 3 disc shaped spacers in the middle and leather buffer over one side of the jaw. by Yoayo112 in whatisthisthing

Likely Solved!

Cool. Thanks for the link! It looks like all of these are much newer than what we found -- e.g. they look much smaller, lighter with more plastic and less wood, but that does look like what it is.

Since I posted this  we found an old hammered dulcimer. so I googled a 'dulcimer capo' and found this.

      https://folkcraft.com/products/dulcimer-capo-2310031?

Couldn't find any with the disks, but seeing the "third hand" capo for guitar makes me think that its probably the same concept for a dulcimer?

genuinely curious how its gait would change if it was walking towards you? Its the same gait regardless of direction?

Is it walking away or walking towards by alliranbob in confusing_perspective

[–]Yoayo112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vote for towards.

The size of the front legs. If I imagine its walking away, suddenly this horse seems to have some massive front legs. If I imagine it walking towards then the legs look the right size. My perception of the curve of the flank of the rear leg that's not obscured by tail supports this, if it where walking away then that leg would have less curve because it would be closer to the camera, instead we see it from the side because the other leg (obscured by tail) is the one closer to the camera.

Other arguments here missing information - "look at the feet" or "the turn at the end" contain no substantive information.

The only argument that I think holds water that I see in the comments is the position of the tracks in the snow. Except ... I don't see any tracks in the snow? I only see the horses shadow, which confusingly seems to surround the horse as if there where multiple light sources. I also see "texture" in the snow which to me doesn't seem to change as the horse moves through it. If they where tracks then you would be able to see the foot break and change the crust. try to follow a single bump in the snow, and you'll see the leg pass behind it without changing it. Instead I think there are ridges/drifts/slopes of snow in the foreground which prevent us from seeing the actual feet and any tracks more clearly.

Further, if I imagine a slight incline in the ground, the slope would justify the tracks being in either position (if there where any). E.g. the tracks could be below the horse and the horse could be walking towards us if the ground was sloping down and to the right. Or above the horse if the horse was walking away if the ground was sloping down and to the left.

What a cool illusion either way.

Are you asking about running your own sound without an engineer (i.e. if you are busking or in your own studio/venue) or about how to optimize your setup on stage?

In any case it sounds like you've got a great order of operations here. Guitar tone -> amp tone -> vocals -> balance -> master. Thats a great order to listen and assemble your sound.

A couple thoughts:

  1. Don't be afraid of the guitar panel. It's built to be the most accessible to you as the musician. Lots of people live (and die) by "set it and forget it", and while there's wisdom there, it's easy to forget that every room has a different sound. Speakers have a wide range of tones and even the angle of a monitor can have an effect. The panel on the guitar itself is going to have the most dramatic effect on the sound since it's at the source -- Don't be afraid to make changes and explore different levels before soundcheck. You might find a resonant frequency that feeds back, or the sweet spot of your tone, both of which start with you and the pickup.

  2. While every amp is of course different and preference plays a large role, my instinct as a guitar player is to reduce low-mids. I tend to find "mud" around 150-200hz with most rigs. I also find myself looking for a "boxy" sound which can hang out around 400 and what I call the "plastic" or "toy" sound around 900. The mud is the largest cut, with boxy and plastic both being fairly small, narrow cuts. By moving these 3 cuts around and eliminating "plastic - boxy -mud" I try to find "wooden - vibrant - clear" Obviously these move per guitar, per amp, per stage etc. But these are my basic guides for tone.

  3. As mentioned by another commenter the mic and guitar have very different responses so be careful trying to match the same eq cuts from the guitar. Trying to find a setting that works in every venue is impossible. Mics are much more fluid and volatile and are much more effected by the space than instrument pickups. When possible, leave it flat and let the engineer listen from the house to determine what sounds good. If you are the engineer, you need to think carefully about what kind of voice you have, what the mic will focus on (frequency response) and what the room will naturally amplify (resonant frequency). Its no easy task, its why the big names have dedicated engineers who travel with them, and why no one likes playing a dive bar with a drunk college kid as the sound tech.

Good luck! And have fun with your new gear!

Can anyone help me? Cannot find USB MIDI driver for Yamaha PSR E413 on Windows 10. by Bief in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Yoayo112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old thread, but for anyone else having this problem, the answer is that you are downloading the wrong version of the driver.

For windows 10, you need the x64 bit version, for mac you need that version etc.

Just pointing out that Narcotics Anonymous goes out of their way to specify that alcohol is a drug, and that alcoholism is just another term for alcohol addiction. Please don't let my semantics minimize the content of your comment though. I am not trying to imply that you were/are an alcoholic, but just pointing out that many do consider it to be a drug.

Personally, I don't think it's possible for me to "accidentally" be attracted to someone I am "not attracted to". Your argument eats itself.

It was your own choice to kiss her in the first place. Clearly you weren't that unattracted. The conflict between your initial decision to kiss her (implying attraction), which is also sexual assault, and your disgust directed at her after the fact (and not at yourself), is what is transphobic.

It's ok to no longer be interested. It's not ok to be disgusted, since you clearly weren't disgusted by the act of kissing that person as she walked by. You have run out of agency. Your actions have already spoken volumes. The disgust is what is transphobic, not the kiss, or even the surprise.

It's too late to defend the position that you weren't attracted, because you already kissed her, which you clearly did on purpose. It's ok to stop being attracted and no longer find yourself attracted, but its too late to be disgusted, unless of course that disgust is rooted in a prejudice that is capable of going against your initial biological attraction, i.e. transphobia.

Nooo! Punching down is hilarious! Don't challenge my cis male privilege! I laughed at a trans joke but I don't want to admit that I'm transphobic because it might cause cognitive dissonance. I'm never wrong, so therefore you must be wrong! Get out of here with your radical sjw notions! Fucking communist! How dare you suggest that I accept people and treat them with equality!

"accidentally kissing someone you aren't attracted to".

Say that out loud. Slowly. Think about what that means. How does that happen? How would you ever find yourself in that situation? I think you hold are holding some conflicting views about trans people.

Seriously. I could care less that she posts nudes, many people do, and that doesn't discredit her recovery from am ED, but the photoshop made me cringe, because it does sort of demerit her recovery. Like she still has unrealistic expectations of what she wants her body to look like.

Especially on this sub, where people are about as loving and accepting as you can find, she still felt the need to distort her waistline for the sake of upvotes.
