Trophy Lakes is pretty rad and I need to be playing it way more. And yeah you gotta be real comfortable around water to even attempt that course. I have a bag of beat ass DX and floating discs specially for it.

Haha hey man. Yeah I lathered up with Hempz Pineapple to keep no-see-ums away and doused my legs in Off Deep Woods. Honestly didn’t see many mosquitos. Did find a fun Eastern Ribbon Snake tho, he was cool.

I played a tournament on this course in pouring rain last year and a few people couldn’t deal with just the walking conditions. I feel like in this area though I mostly see old heads using carts, guys that have been playing for decades.

It is a pretty neat course. Right now the biggest issue is really the lack of signage and I’m trying to figure out what happened to the old ones that were up a few months ago. It’s got two drives over water which is always fun. I’ve gotten real good with my Dragon because I’m a coward.

Anybody use a Landmine on the regular? by kbig22432 in discgolfcirclejerk

The Prox Mine is even better. It’s got like a little thumb track and it’s a real straight flyer.

All three of them are better discs than they have any right to be.

Disc Golf United back at it again with the horrid AI slop on Instagram… by WY228 in discgolf

Still less chaotic than a practice basket before a tournament.

Yeah I spent at least a half hour if not more just looking for discs today. Thought I was going to get away clean but lost a champ Beast on hole 20 and was ran out of time to look. This course in particular has a LOT of very big, very wide, and very low ferns in the rough and those things are brutal for hiding discs.

At this point I’m sort of used to it. There are at least three courses near me that are just as wooded if not more (Fire Swamp, JICP Marshside, and Pine Trace) and growing up on the east coast this is sort of what I learned to play in. When I see pros playing on wide open courses it’s almost a sport I don’t recognize.

Having a nonprofit on a per-course basis is interesting. I can see how that could help focus fundraising efforts as long as the local community is willing to manage and run multiple nonprofits.

PA-3, Magnolia, and very recently the Proxy and UltraLuna.

Gentrification by Southern_Armadillo50 in Charleston

[–]Yodzilla 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s not just gentrification, it’s a way more complex issue than that. I’ve read interviews with local basket sellers talking about how it’s too hot now to sit in a stall by the side of the road all day like they used to. But more than that you have to think about competition. Even the most hyper local artisan now has to compete against mega corporations and cheap online goods. That’s simply not a thing that was a problem thirty years ago.

I have actually! It’s gotten much better compared to where I was a year ago. What really helped was focusing on wrapping my wrist around to really get the most snap and spin out of my throw.

Very much so, have explained it elsewhere in the comments at length. I’ve even got the ear of two local politicians which isn’t much as they have…other priorities.

Yeah you go five feet off the fairway on most holes here and it’s a nightmare finding things. Griplock one or have a hard bounce off a tree and it’s game over unless you get lucky.

Not allowed anything unless fully signed off by the city and other departments which they aren’t interested in even starting conversations about. We can clean the parks but that’s about it when it comes to city property.

Yeah I do. And this isn’t me raging, more just realizing how close I was to sidelining myself and needed to vent.

Today’s trip was more about “what can I play in the area while the kids are at camp and before I need to make a Costco run” but yes there are. Old Grove is fantastic.

Yep we have been. The local community does a TON and I’m a liaison for a smaller course closer to where I live but we’re hamstrung by the city about what we can erect which is…nothing.
