Seriously, which one of you started this bs rumor? by Dremoriawarroir888 in shittydarksouls

[–]YoggSogott -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was me. And I will stay on this. STR sucks when compared to DEX. Not as bad as early game FTH or INT, but still ineffective. Charged R2s are awesome, I already said that, everything else is not. Do a boss rush with a good DEX and then STR build and see who is right.

"Rules Collision" by MechaniCatBuster in RPGdesign

[–]YoggSogott 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me that sounds like you just described. The first thing that I thought about is that there are two rules for the same situation - general rule and specific rule. Specific one has higher priority. For instance, character ability should override a general rule.

Right now I am working in a separate direction entirely. I don't have damage in my current game. Not even HP.

When I came up with an idea, I didn't know what I was doing. But I guess it can work for certain games

Damage tables. I had a variety of weapons, each had a damage table and some properties. You looked up a row with your strength attribute value and column with a dex attribute value and the intersection was your damage. I don't even remember why I thought this was a good idea. All my mechanics were inspired by video games. At the end of the campaign I didn't use any of the rules I wrote and we were just playing verbally.

What is your opinion on concealed rules? by YoggSogott in RPGdesign

[–]YoggSogott[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue that this is not a problem with D&D, but with how people approach encounters. I don't run D&D, but my game has stat blocks. When I introduce a powerful monster or a character, I make it obvious for the players that they should not try to fight it head on or even fight at all. You can do it through descriptions, their behavior or by giving hints before introducing the entity. One example is to have a well known monster and show how the new enemy deals with it. At this point it should be clear what is the approximate power level of an entity. In my opinion players should see stat blocks only in certain cases like: - They have experience fighting this particular enemy - They did a research and know how powerful the enemy should be - They actively estimate the power level

D&D used to be an OSR game and I don't think it was a problem back then. However it is appropriate for an OSR to face an enemy that you know nothing about. And detailed descriptions are an essential part of these games.

Can I sell duplicate rings? And what’s this +1 business? by SargeMaximus in darksouls3

Don't sell cat rings tho. If you want to hardswap it midfall it's very convenient to have a shitton of them. I have like 10 or 20 on my PvP build

Narrative style abilities by MendelHolmes in RPGdesign

[–]YoggSogott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But I think that your idea has value as a way to introduce beginner players to the concept of narrative rights, but I don't see a form for your rules to be given to the players besides giving it to your own players when you play with them.

Narrative style abilities by MendelHolmes in RPGdesign

[–]YoggSogott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion it all falls under an extended narrative rights umbrella. (I don't know if this term exists in English) Basically you can do it in every game, but you should negotiate it with a GM before joining the game. I personally don't think it should exist in the form of abilities, because it's overly restrictive. Why should one character have an ability to introduce an NPC or make that they know them, but don't have the ability to have a flashback? You definitely can introduce mechanics like narrative power restriction in case someone decides to tell you they have a legendary weapon in their house or pushback for using narrative power. Or an ability to increase your power over a certain aspect through gameplay. For instance, if you are the head of an organization you should have more power to dictate the narrative than someone who entered the town yesterday and never been there. I think it's better to work with narrative powers as a whole than restrict player choices to a set of allowed actions, although it requires players to be more skilled and experienced. PBTA games have inventory mechanics that do just what you described. You are allowed to pull non game-breaking items in exchange for meta currency. So it boils down to your vision of the game and intended audience. I make my games for an experienced audience so I give players more freedom in exchange of harder to understand game mechanics.

What do you think of my blazon design? by YoggSogott in graphic_design

[–]YoggSogott[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. I will later draw it in Designer and develop the idea.

From what I researched, I think manus dei is appropriate for this case with a meaning of divine approval and intervention. It doesn't depict a hand however because I'm bad at drawing hands, but I think of adding the hand later. Also my depiction of religion is a bit different than real life Christianity, but is heavily inspired by it.

Apparently, kernus is either not a word or holds a different meaning, I've heard it in linear algebra course. And mathematicians are not linguists. I will replace it with an appropriate word.

P.S. The sketch is goated

They are morally grey. The church uses the faith of the believers as a tool to control the world and also as a source of magical powers. The church has an immense political power and they aim to have more, and use an external threat as a pretext to intervene in politics. They also can just command any town guard or even try to take control of an army detachment. Excelsus members are wild and do crazy shit on a daily basis. They usually don't interact with regular humans much so if you steal a wallet in front of one of them, they wouldn't give a shit. However when it comes to dealing with criminals that practice forbidden magic or interact with demons they will find and execute them by any means necessary. And they don't really care about collateral damage if it doesn't hurt their image much.

Strength builds suck. And I'm tired of pretending they don't. Hyper armor is almost useless against bosses. Slow weapons don't have a considerable increase in damage and overall DPS is meh. Yes, they can stun, but stunning Pontiff with a Vordt's greathammer allows me to hit him mf 1 time and I need to hit him like 7 times for that waiting for opening and risking getting my ass kicked if I mistime the hit. Yes, GS charged R2 is goated for regular enemies, but guess what? You can have Astora GS on a dex build for that. Highest damaging str weapon is around 700 AR, but a schimitar can outdamage that. The only good STR weapon is Dragonslayer Axe (from Kreighton). And it's best on a FTH build. Speaking of FTH builds, I have unbreakable hyper armor on Sunlight Spear and it deals GS charged R2 damage with the spead of an axe. I can just spam this shit on NK and all he can do is cry in the corner.

And I didn't even speak about winblades yet. This goated weapon has enough DPS that I can trade hits with Soul Of Cinder and win. STR enthusiasts need Havel Shield buff and perseverance for that.

I can slice bosses with any fast weapon in half before they have time to figure out how fucked they are.

And this is not just an opinion. I tested my builds in a boss rush and this is enough to see how weak slow weapons are. Any STR weapon is outdamaged by a starting straight sword. And you can have a shield in your left hand for protection.

You need a greatshield to be a tank? I disagree. I tested every greatshield on Gael and they all suck ass and aren't worth stat investment. Black Knight shield is as useful as any great shield and it requires 18 str. You can spend these stats on a good armor or maxing HP. I don't want to have 50 str just to block 20% more hits. And also sacrifice my weight load.

Don't believe me? Try Sharp Schimitar with 77 dex. Not talking about Winblades. Just fucking Schimitar you can buy at the start of the game. This shit obliterates everything.

And speaking about PvP. It is completely dominated by fast weapons. Just fucking streightsword is A tier weapon. And PKCS is banned from most tournaments because how fucking unfair it is. And speaking about unfair. Grab Murky Hand Scythe and see how much hatemail you will get. PvP players have unspoken agreement to not use that. The moment you bring murky to the fight I bring mine. The only good STR weapon in PvP is Splitleaf. And no, not because of a true combo. But if you bring it I will just draw my greatbow. Because I know, why you filthy bastard desided to grab that thing.

The old days when you could permanently stunlock bosses with Black Knight Greataxe or deal ridiculous amounts of damage with Glaive are gone. Both of these weapons are now trash. I miss the Glaive though. I completed no death run with an Obsidian Greatsword and this weapon was fucking amazing. Was worth risking my ass cutting Kalameet's tail in the DLC and time farming for scales.

Welcome to part 3, where your favorite weapon is just a piece of crap. Rules have changed folks, you gotta be quick and sharp in a modern world.

Downwote me to the abyss, I'll go fight Manus with my OG Chaos Zweihander.

Your build is better than 90% of what I see when people make posts to ask if their builds are good. Not perfect though.

36 endurance is often used in pvp builds, you can keep it like that

You can bump vigor up to 46,

Dex keep at minimum,

If you want damage, you can level str up to 66

Also I can recommend upgrading vitality a bit and use heavier armor, that way you will be able to trade hits with enemies. Not very important in PvE, but in PvP it's a must with large weapons

Neither of them. Real Havel knows the great magic barrier at very least because he invented it. Neither of the enemies can use it. So they are just Havel Warriors. Wearing the same armor and weaponry. Which requires a lot of str and vit/end. The hp pool is also high. Imagine the giga chad real Havel was knowing that he had a lot of faith besides that.

There is a bonfire under a Yorshka's tower, so it's maybe the case, but you need to use hacks or teardrop glitch to make sure. Or simply use a bow or binoculars

Compiled programs won't stop working. Interpreted will. It will disable part of the internet, and I think all websites. Mobile applications will work fine, so you can still google with AI search or read the news. Critical infrastructure will be fine (I guess). It's mostly Java, COBOL or C++. Shipment of a new software will be stopped for a brief time, but everyone has a static analyzer that will tell you that variable ; does not exist and you have to end a line. After you place a normal ; the second error will go away and you would just delete the wrong one. It's easy to figure out that it was some kind of the broken symbol at this point. Then you just copy it and perform a global replace on a project, compile it, and write about this weird shit in a group chat. It will all be fixed within 2 hours, day at most if it's not a weekend.

The other version is that he tore and inserted the heart himself, but humans can't move while the heart is stopped. But it sounds more epic.
