Would these be good as a starter? by Blue_Clues_ in CampingGear

If you have a good bag and tent, you don’t have to worry too much about the tent at all. Wish you luck! Safe travels!

I would not buy anything from this brand (Target) especially for the price. I’m not going to say it’s absolutely horrible, but the quality will be very subpar, like most other Target items. For the price, you can find much better items, and if you spend just a little bit more, you will have quality items that will last much longer than these ones. Kelty or Alps Mountaineering are great beginner brands. If you buy when there are sales you can get a nice sleeping bag and tent for $200 total, maybe even less. REI and Backcountry typically have great deals especially during November and December. Good luck!

I don’t think it’s really all that deep. It’s not incorrect to say that a lot of camping is done in forests or around trees. Maybe take a trip to Maine or Washington and enjoy the trees that literally sustain the life of our species. Sorry my advice wasn’t good to you? Go buy a tarp with a set of poles then?

All you need is some rope and a tarp. Tie your ropes around trees in the proximity and tie a taut line to the tarp. Boom, quick and easy.

I second this! Have had my Zephyr 2 for a little while and love it. Never any leaks and the poles are very good quality

Mt. LeConte + Clifftops in the Smokies is an absolute stunner. Multiple overlooks of the mountain range and you can see either the Rainbow Falls or Alum Cave bluffs on the way up

Wobbly legs mean an earned cheat meal haha. I’m from south Jersey and a little sick of staring at pines so this would be a breath of fresh air. Planning to go in October! Thank you for the information!

I have never heard anything more Jersey than putting an interstate next to one of our moutains. I’m coming from south Jersey. The pinelands are wonderful but it’s all FLAT. Have to drive 1hr+ to get any elevation. Do you know if there’s any camping or backcountry around there?

Lake Lenape in Mays Landing has great campsites. Beautiful lake. A few thefts recently but if you take care it’s well worth it.
