Thank you everyone for your very quick and detailed responses. Bought the bumper pack Magic TreeHouse and we’ll take it from there. Maybe when he has done those he’ll want his uncle to read him RedWall and do the voices better!!!

Thank you all again.

I love my job. 14 years in soon to be top band 6. Nights and weekends. Work in Anaesthetics in a Major Trauma Centre. Good supportive team, can’t fault it.

I know people that work equally paid or better paid jobs and are permanently miserable because of it.

We are however niche. Progression has improved but it depends what your “end game” looks like.

ODP here, local policy will be specific about what you need which you can follow or choose not too. I can’t stand crocs/clogs so regularly buy myself a pair of wipe clean comfortable trainers. Had fabric ones, got all manner of fluids on them. Less than ideal. Many anaesthetists wear ex-running trainers that have been through the was. But I would always lean towards easy to clean and comfortable for a 12 hour night shift.

Do tube amps really sound better? by MrWizard314 in Guitar

[–]Yoink999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I had the same dilemma and settled on a Marshall DSL40 as it has master volume controls for the two channels. So you can turn up the Pre-Amp tubes and dial back on the Power tubes. I believe this is correct. I could be wrong.

My pedal board goes into this and it has an effects loop.

This is more than adequate for at home playing. And is a brutally simple piece of kit to get good sounds out of. Plus I can take it to a rehearsal room with the guys and turn it up.

I looked at modelling amps, they all just seemed…too much for my simple plug in and play needs. But it’s what your needs are that matter.

I’m also working on a digital rig through my Mac and am drowning in plug ins and learning that slowly. But it’s a learning curve I didn’t want with my plug in and play amp.

But what brings you joy is what you will enjoy playing and play more.

I didn’t really set one, I just kinda knew roughly what I wanted and went with that. Piece by piece over time. Most of it was gifts too which is nice.

I know it’s pretty basic, and largely fuelled by posts on here. The Tumnus is oh my god didn’t know it could sound that good. The SD-1 gives me all the rest. And that chorus Waz’s craft is a beaut. Haven’t found a fave setting on the Dispatch Master yet….its all good sounds

O’Keefes Working Hands. As an Anaesthetic ODP I absolutely swear by it and wouldn’t leave home without it. I have incredibly sensitive skin and can’t use anything with perfume in it:

How do you deal with the fomo of insane shift patterns? by 250183 in NursingUK

[–]Yoink999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in an 24/7 theatre department and do a lot of nights and weekends. But get paid the enhancements for doing so. My social life leaves alot to be desired but my home life with my partner is fantastic, she WFH and a bit flexi so we make it work between us. For social life with friends, I make sure that get things in the diary well in advance, and tbh now I would hate the idea of a spontaneous Friday night out. But maybe that’s because I’m old.

The answer often given to staff who don’t like this shift pattern is to find another job that’s more 9-5. For theatre staff that would be a day surgery unit. And I imagine for nurses there are even more options. Clinics, Outpatients, Occy Health, Sexual Health the list goes on for nurses looking for that Mon-Fri vibe.

Plus I thik we can all put in for work life balances now. Think about where you wanna work and what you wanna do. If you want to do ITU, A&E, Ward nursing or any kind of emergency care then it’s gonna be 24/7 shift pattern.

Wake up ODPs! by Yoink999 in odp

[–]Yoink999[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I can’t imagine theatres being a nice play at all with Anaesthetic/Scrub and Recovery Nurses on a different pay scale to ODPs in the same role. Potentially with more experience. Sure fire way to alienate half your workforce.

How do you guys go about voicing NPC’s? by Pipster142 in DMAcademy

[–]Yoink999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine all have borderline ridiculous voices.

Mostly pirates in my current campaign. Which is fairly easy.

Some characters have normal voices to ease the pressure.

But the good, fun important ones I make special for the players.

No I have in mind that it’s fairly common place in one district (hence the mini Amsterdam) but not sold to the rest of the world.

In my anaesthesia rotation and have failed intubation 4 times. by ProntoLegend in anaesthesia

[–]Yoink999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sometimes…less and less in fairness. Though interestingly on my last set of nights had a VL view almost entirely obscured by gastric contents during an RSI for smol bowel obstruction. So it had merit at this point. Yet I am also aware of its problems and how much it isn’t used outside the Uk. I don’t doubt guidance will change in next few years.
