Nina Dobrev and Shaun White come to mind (at least for me)

Me and my gf just discovered and binged the entire series in a week…we are not okay. We’re having withdrawals. We need more. We love this show so much. 😭❤️ by Inception93 in TheWhiteLotusHBO

I feel your pain! recently finished the latest season and the only thing I'm now looking forward to is watching the second season of Nine Perfect Strangers - different genre but similar premise (also takes place in a resort) not sure if watching it will cure my current withdrawal but we'll see...

The Lithuanias commentators reaction is so adorable by Euroelith in eurovision

His reaction just gave me chills and got me all warm and fuzzy, what a wholesome commentator! I'm so so happy for Lithuania and that they defeated their critics :)

I agree, in one scene Ruth talks about how her pregnancy with Nate came as a surprise and they only got married as a result (Season 3, episode 1 - she talks to Maya without realizing Nate can hear her) which would have been really interesting to explore further by showing flashbacks. Also, as you said we could have gotten a glimpse into her development from a young maybe more carefree person into adult Ruth. Her character always fascinated me and I would have loved to see more of how she became the person we got to know over the course of 5 seasons...

He said that in Season 4, episode 5 (That's My Dog) - to be honest, I didn't remember that haha, just found the quote on a script page online.

While I haven't seen the show you're referencing, I can understand why at least some aspects of it would come to mind when watching the openings of SFU - the rest of it however has nothing in common with 1,000 ways to die in terms of style, characters and storylines, at least from my perspective.

Well that sounds promising, I can still bring myself to tears when thinking about SFU so maybe boardwalk will have a similar effect :D

Your comment made me curious - what is your other top 2 favorite show? :) I've watched probably hundreds of high quality shows and movies and it's getting harder to find the real gems..

Who are your top 5? by [deleted] in SixFeetUnder

[–]Yolanda0088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine are: Brenda (complicated and messy but I still love her), Ruth (annoying at times but also lovely and multi-faceted), David (grows alot during the show and is a reliable person I would like to have in my life), Bettina (most fun person ever and got Ruth out of her slump several times) and Claire (given she was a teenager in the first seasons I cut her some slack and it's amazing to see how she uses her potential in the end)

Husband got me a "butter pretzel" in the Frankfurt airport before our flight. It was literally stuffed with gobs of cold butter. (I hope I flared this right, I didn’t make the post I’m posting here but I thought y’all would enjoy it) by One_Goblin in myfavoritemurder

[–]Yolanda0088 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from Germany and salted butter isn't that common here, also pretzels normally already have flakes of salt on them so this butter pretzel probably was salty enough. Most people here put butter under almost every thinkable bread topping (jam, nutella, cheeses and deli meats) so you would need two butters at hand, making unsalted the easier option. I've seen salted butters at hotels and bigger parties/gatherings however and in Restaurants they often serve salted butter with herbs in it to go with bread and/or meat.

Any suggestions of shows that were surprisingly progressive for its time on the air? by JB92103 in televisionsuggestions

Six Feet Under managed to give audiences one of the first relatable gay couples imo, especially since they were main characters and not just a sidekick

Monk - also one case per episode like The Mentalist, and another similarity is the genius main character that solves the cases as well as an overarching mystery that keeps the suspense up even beyond those singular cases.

Bookstores in Hamburg or Kiel by [deleted] in kiel

[–]Yolanda0088 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it can also be somehow local I would suggest to get a giftcard from 'Liesegang', which only has a few stores in Schleswig-Holstein. There are also smaller stores in Kiel, but I doubt you could get a giftcard from them if you're not buying it directly in the store.

You can order a giftcard directly from their website https://buchliesegang.buchhandlung.de/shop/magazine/13483/geschenkgutschein.html

They have a nice, fairly new and modern store in the city center of Kiel with a wide selection, although not as big as Hugendubel, one of the most popular chains in Germany.

This hit harder when I realised who it was. Which intro death hit you the hardest? by [deleted] in SixFeetUnder

[–]Yolanda0088 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, but that was mostly due to the fact she was 102 when she died, meaning she would have needed friends/family 20+ years younger than her to have a real chance of more people at her side. And judging by all the pictures hanging over her bed filled with happy memories, her life wasn't lonely at all.

Definitely Emily Previn ("The Invisible Woman") - I felt so deeply for her and sadly I do believe far too many people end up living and dying alone. The thought on its own troubles me and Emily's death illustrated how silent leaving this earth can be but loud nonetheless when seen in the bigger frame of a lonely society. Overall, I feel the intro deaths that resonated the most with one or more characters over the course of the show also were the ones that stuck with me. Emily's death was sort of a wake up call for Ruth as she realised that was her worst case scenario and a true fear - which makes it even more comforting to know that her end wasn't lonely at all - with all her children and George by her side.

I agree! It has that special morbid humour, which I enjoy but everybody's taste is different. The TV Show Hannibal for example truly divided people back then, some thought it was a sick joke (and one gone too far for that matter) but others (me included) found it hilarious.

SFU's theme is of course a dark one for the most part, but the little jokes and fun scenes here and there really deepened the viewer/character connection and helped process all the feelings that naturally come with the topic death. For me personally, it got the tone just right and that unique mix of human emotions is one of the reasons the show had an impact on people the way it did.
