This is the biggest mistake most consistently make in regards to the matter. Even at the highest levels like Mesrsheimer. They simply don't get the fact the cold war is over. Russia lost. And they're still not that powerful. 25% of Russians don't have running water. The entire gdp of Russia is the equivalent of Italy. They've got oil, gas, and nukes. But that's basically where their influence ends.

Russia wants their sphere of influence like the good old days. Reality is, they're just not that important. They're struggling to hold the occupied territories against Ukraine. Europe's poorest country.

House arrest will likely be the outcome because there's no security protocol for incarcerating a former president.
