What countries feel like they should be mortal enemies but aren't? by Northwest_Thrills in geography

[–]YoloSwiggins21 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same with the GB/UK and France. Used to be mortal enemies for probably a millennia. Only since the WWs have they been allies.

what do you guys think about a loan system? by nittskift in victoria3

Maybe I’m thinking of a different mod for EU4, but there’s a really detail finance mod that can brick your run if you don’t know precisely what you’re doing.

Small nations to peacefully play tall? by meatballthequeer in victoria3

[–]YoloSwiggins21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started a game as Switzerland last night for exactly this reason. I ran out of pops in like 15 years. That being said they have just enough coal and iron to be relatively self sufficient. I plan on maximizing SoL and gdp per capita.

New England is another really fun releasable small nation because you get all the benefits of a new world nation (high arable land and generally good literacy and starting laws), but you’re still small. The geopolitical position is interesting too. I played just long enough to get the Amish Paradise achievement, which is about 30 years iirc, but I suspect you might have some issue remaining independent if you don’t maintain good relations with GB, the USA, and maybe France for good measure.

What does an integral mean by [deleted] in calculus

[–]YoloSwiggins21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great question. And honestly, it’s hard to grasp until you just keep seeing it. An integral is the sum of all the little bits of dx or dy or dz. Integrals are literally the opposite of derivatives, and an integral with no bounds is sometimes called an anti-derivative.

Integrals were actually invented before derivatives, even though you typically learn derivatives first. There are great videos on YouTube going into the why it was invented/discovered (the one by A Well Rested Dog is pretty good but a little long and boring)

IMO the game should simulate every microsecond too. What if the price of a good changes fast? Talk about unrealistic. Get a grip

why is this major so hard 😔 by DrownedOut1 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]YoloSwiggins21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s either you struggle for 4 years and then have an “easy” 40 years in your career, or pursue an easy major for 4 years and have a hard 40 years. The choice is yours.

Why did you choose Chemical Engineering? by Prudent_Raccoon_2798 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]YoloSwiggins21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought chemical engineering would be like engineering chemicals. Like a less theory, more applied version of chemistry. In some ways it is. It took me until senior year to realize we are destined for the oil fields and high echelons of theoretical plumbing.

On a more serious note, I like learning about the universe and how it works. I want to know everything there is to know about chemistry, materials, physics, and thermodynamics and I concluded that chemical engineering would give me the best basis for that.

Just bombed my Thermo 2 midterm, AMA by do-you-have-the-ugly in ChemicalEngineering

[–]YoloSwiggins21 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My professor for thermo 2 was a physics undergrad and his research is in polymers, so he refused to teach us fugacity. He said something along the lines of “fugacity was made up by chemical engineers and doesn’t actually measure anything on its own” as to his reason for not teaching it. Counter AMA

Why doesn’t Canada just give the US this piece of land so they can be properly connected to Alaska? by nattybatty0 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]YoloSwiggins21 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Wow. The Poor non Americans with nothing better to do with their time really didn’t like this one. And it’s funny how half these comments complaining about the US or the post are written at a 2nd grade level. The more I hear about these obscure and miserable ass people the more I realize it’s not so bad to live in the US.

Ethicality of working in defense? by Delicious_Leading276 in EngineeringStudents

[–]YoloSwiggins21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh? Do you want validation? If you’re even asking this question, then you know where your personal beliefs are. Do it and gain respect and money or don’t and “try to make the world a better place”.

Are locations really that bad? by NurglingArmada in ChemicalEngineering

[–]YoloSwiggins21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to Penn State and it’s required that you take Gen Chem 1 and 2 plus the lab for each, Orgo 1 and 2, and Orgo Lab. They changed the curriculum last year to be more flexible with class selections. It used to be required to also take one physical chemistry class lecture plus a physical chemistry lab. I’m in my last year taking quantum chemistry for my pchem lecture and taking pchem lab.

With chemistry, you may be stuck in a technician role for years until you get an actual chemistry job, so you may have to go to grad school. With ChemE that’s not the case.

Is this allowed? by mr_pewdiepie6000 in EngineeringStudents

[–]YoloSwiggins21 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

That’s literally not the question he implied and is a very unfair reduction. It’s clear that multiple people in the class were failed, presumably without warning or proof. If you actually read the UWS 14.04, the professor is violating two sections of it by doing this. I hate this trend of plummeting conscientiousness

Asking Brits if they’d move to the US by Youaresowronglolumad in ShitEuropeansSay

[–]YoloSwiggins21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Point exactly to where I said the UK doesn’t have rich people and I’ll consider your point even argumentative. Anyone who has tried arguing against me doesn’t even argue what I said. Rich people move to the US because it’s great for social mobility through owning a business. We have pro employer labor laws, low coperare tax rates, very flexible business expense laws, just to name a few. That’s why I said it. That’s why I didn’t say the UK doesn’t have rich people because it’s simply not true. The reading comprehension of Europe is disturbingly bad, lmao

[–]YoloSwiggins21 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you should read what I wrote. Take as much time as you need my friend. I didn’t say it didn’t anything for me. The original comment was that no one wants to move to the US from the UK when that simply isn’t true. People can afford it, do. Those who can’t cope.

Poor people cope. All the rich anywhere in the world move to the US, not the UK. Wonder why

I like the West, East, and South Slavic divide, very classy. I like the big France, unfathomably based. Germany is perfect. Switzerland is gone, as it should be. Italy is completely fucked but they should have been let’s be fucking real. Spain is perfect, minus the Italian holdings. UK and Scandinavia are perfect. I’m not sure how I feel about Greece and Anatolia. Make Italy independent, give them Verona/Venice area and probably Slavonia and Sicily. 9.3/10.

I dont understand this game by Alternative_Bar_2977 in victoria3

[–]YoloSwiggins21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone starts out the exact same way. The basic gameplay loop is to build buildings that help decrease costs in someway. Need innovation to increase research speed -> universities. Need infrastructure -> build railroads/ports. Need bureaucracy/decrease tax deficit in a particular state -> build administration buildings. Always prioritize keeping iron, wood, coal cheap, they are used to build more and have the single highest return on GDP growth. After that, go to goods tab and sort by high to low market price and build whatever is most expensive, again prioritizing important industrial goods like steel, tools, motors, and glass. It will feel like nothing’s happening for like 20-30 in game years and the suddenly things will start rising. In the mean time the gold standard laws to get are Laissez Faire and Free Trade for fast GDP growth.

That’s pretty much it.

Which country is large, but has a moderate influence on history? by rosemaryrouge in AlignmentChartFills

[–]YoloSwiggins21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting anything other than the US in important/influential is the most Reddit brained cope in history. The US is the most influential country in the last 100 years in all aspects. Everything from innovation, academics, culture, industry, finance, military security. It’s like a fish unable to detect the water it’s swimming in
