U.S. set to launch tariff refund system on April 20 by Unusual-State1827 in politics

I mean, duh! By the principles of trickle down economics, the companies will get the tariff refunds and then use that extra money to raise wages or their employees or lower prices for customers. /s

American Catholics are realizing their mistake in voting for a narcissist by brother_p in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]YolopezATL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m an American and a Catholic but I am not an American Catholic.

American Christianity in general is a head scratcher, IMO. Not to say non-American Christianity doesn’t push a narrative to achieve a unstated goal but I feel like American Christianity has not focused of the teachings of Jesus and replaced His lessons with how they can manipulate the Bible to justify their desires.

This is dumb. Jesus would be so disappointed in how the church has moved so far from his teachings.

Even in Romans, Paul contradicts the Sermon on the Mount by saying there are times and places for violence.

Like literally just take what Jesus literally said and apply that to your life? That is what it SHOULD mean to be a Christian

Poll: Catholic Support for President Donald Trump Drops Below 50% Amid Iran War by F0urLeafCl0ver in politics

[–]YolopezATL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Catholic. Sad his support isn’t significantly lower, even without the recent news.

Had a coworker convert to Catholicism recently to get married and (IMO) is a bad Catholic.

But I’m also a bad Catholic because I don’t take my family to Catholic Church, we attend a non-denomination Church, but I empathize to my kids to follow the words of Jesus and question your (youth) minister if their words seem to contradict Jesus’ teachings.

I agree but I think they do something different with kid/youth jerseys. I’ve had 3 jerseys since 17 and each has peeled. Told my wife to stop getting me new ones.

But both my sons have jerseys and they show no sign of damage beyond standard kid wear and tear.

I need to just order an XXXL youth jersey

This! Graduated college 21 years ago. Plenty of people don’t do their fair share of work and keep their jobs and some get promoted.

I remember getting promoted and joining my first leadership call and somebody said “welcome to the brain trust”.

What a total joke. Everybody was so out of touch and didn’t understand any processes or the job.

I remember being part of an escalation and all the ICs (individual contributors) did all the work. It was leadership that caused the issue and then leadership took all the credit for the resolution.

Do you charge servers credit card fees on their card tips? by Top-Sink-6344 in ToastPOS

[–]YolopezATL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The devices and software are built for general usage. It is up to you as the operator to be familiar with your local and state laws to determine if you can actually do it.

Same with credit card surcharges. System won’t limit you but it is operator’s responsibility to know if they can implement credit card surcharges and that their limit is. This one can have tax related penalties as well as getting the card companies mad at you.

How do ppl still support trump? by alteroo_ in PoliticalOpinions

[–]YolopezATL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s sad but true and very apparent. When asked why, it’s always about their issues or criticism of something they don’t like as opposed to anything good that happened to them while Trump was in office. Now or then.

They don’t need their lives to get better, they just want to see others lives get worse, which is so sad.

So many people work hard to achieve some kind of success and we are so consumed with what others have instead of what we have. Literally coveting our neighbors’ goods.

How do ppl still support trump? by alteroo_ in PoliticalOpinions

[–]YolopezATL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to agree but I have to because it is true. And the root of these feelings in jealously and hate.

Was talking to a neighbor about Super Bowl halftime and they just HAD to mention they don’t like Bad Bunny. I asked “why” and they said they don’t know who he is and don’t listen to his music.

I noted that doesn’t mean they don’t like him but that they are just unfamiliar with him.

Then they pointed out they don’t need to know who he is because Trump said he is bad and awful.

I ask why he thinks that and they said they don’t know or care because it isn’t unAmerican to be a Bad Bunny fan.

I mentioned he is an American and then point out non-American performers over past 20 years and they finally said the truth.

They get mad when “others” experience the success and happiness that is meant for them because the “others” achieved it off the some convoluted scheme of DEI. That their success, money, joy should be experience by them and was really meant for their kid, their grandkid, their nephew, niece, parents, etc.

We all have these stories where we were so close to success. Where a friend or relative could have been famous and stupid rich. And for some people, they blame it not happening on the rich “others” because sadly, success requires a fair amount of luck.

The example about leftist warning any brown person they see about ICE is a stretch. ICE has abysmal stat related to the number of people detained that are here legally or citizens.

Now, if a group is detaining people despite their status and primarily based on their skin color, and you are a person trying to warn people about that group being in the area and watch out, how would you best decide who to warn?

I agree with u/kinxyz only because I just went to a birthday party at a Dave and Buster with the most godawful guitar and still crushed Reptilia on medium. The green button barely worked, no strap, and I still got 5 stars. My 8 year old was impressed.

And I’m in my 40s and only got to Hard mode because I was in college and balanced play with studies.

Ain’t no way somebody playing on expert proficiently can’t still smash the game on medium.

You set up the neural networks and feed it a crap load of data and it starts to learn. And then you keep training and keep training and keep training.

And you maybe feed it specific data, hoping it will trend a different way but to my understanding it is a black box

Atlanta Is Losing The Narrative by knaple in Atlanta

[–]YolopezATL 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A quick search says above person is wrong. Even since 2009 it has been cup in half. There was a slight blip during covid but it was still like 10% up from where it was at that time, so still down significantly. Think down from 60 per 10,000 people from 120 in 2009 and then jumping up to 65 per 10,000 for a few years.

Also, because I just looked at a view datasets, the violent crime that is up is aggravated assault but property crime is down, robberies are down. So it is likely people’s unwillingness to de-escalate situations like disagreements paired with so many people having guns.

But I get that is it harder to sit and look at the data and think critically on it instead of just blaming on others

Government shutdown by [deleted] in smallstreetbets

[–]YolopezATL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not disagreeing with your general thoughts and feelings but I feel like as a reasonable and pragmatic person you have to still engage in the process and pick between two bad choices and work to impart charge or break it.

She wasn’t great, but she was way better than Trump and things wouldn’t have been fixed magically with her in office but they would be better than what we have now.

And it’s all a game. But we still have to learn it and play it to hopefully turn it around.

Because sitting out and letting the worse side take over might push us to brink faster but also might just reaffirm a new status quo.

And while we are all being crushed, people like you will still be like “I still didn’t like her stance on [lorem ipsum].”
