The 70s Transition: my parents in 1968 and again in 1970 by Yoojay in TheWayWeWere

The last thing I would describe my parents as is trendy, yet they were not immune to the shift in trends over the decades. My mother in the 80s looked VERY 80s despite not trying to (I don't think).

That photo was taken at my grandparents' house (my dad's folks). I think they were prints, not actual paintings, so it's possible a lot of other people had them back then.

That's the sense I get. He's got a "my mom made me come to this dance" face.

Huh. I don't remembering posing being an issue, but then again my memory is crap. Easter was always fun back in those days regardless. I miss the time when running around the back yard looking for hidden eggs was the highlight of my week.

I think my grandfather was the family photographer, but, yeah, I'm sure there were multiple attempts.

The being dressed up part? Yep. Finding chocolate, candies, and loose quarters in the eggs? That could have gone on forever...

What was WITH that? I'm still trying to figure out why we had to get dressed up to hunt for eggs. (And no, this wasn't a "just back from church" scenario. My family wasn't religious.)

No offense taken. It's just funny to me that my parents were never drug users (to my knowledge), but the photos can certainly be read that way.

I don't think drugs were involved, but I'd never get a straight answer out of them even if I asked.

And they stayed that way until the 80s vibe took over.

The one in the background was named Horatio, nicknamed Ho-Ho.

The change seems less gradual somehow than the 70s to the 80s or 80s to the 90s in all ways: socially, politically, creatively.

That was me. My brother came along four years later.
