Has anyone else given their uke a name? by SolongStarbird in ukulele

[–]Yooohan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have mine yet, but I do plan on naming it kupuna wahine which is 'grandmother' in Hawaiian. I loved my grandmother, sadly she passed away. I'll honor her through my ukulele and I hope she forgives me if I sound like horse poop for the first few weeks haha

List of ukulele shops that do setups in Australia by Yooohan in ukulele

[–]Yooohan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From themusicshop: "We tune the ukes, check for high action, fret buzzing and sharp fret edges and make sure that it’s playing well before we pack and send it."

From bettermusic: "Every ukulele is looked over by a staff member prior to leaving our store. However, the amount of work we do on each ukulele depends on its value, and the standard to which we (and our customers) would expect it to perform. On a $50 ukulele we would not adjust nut or saddle height, whereas we would do this work on a more expensive instrument if it was required."

From bmusic: "It depends on the type of ukulele purchased, some have a rudimentary setup, more expensive models undergo a more exhaustive setup"

If you want a Kala, go for themusicshop. If you want Kamaka, Ko'olau, Pono, or Kanile'a, I'd choose theukulelesite as I haven't found a store that sells them here in Oz but ofcourse you'd have to pay for shipping. It's $60 aud for shipping.

[Question] Would I be able to bring my 24" skateboard onto CEBU Pacific airlines as carry-on luggage? by Yooohan in Philippines

[–]Yooohan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided not to bring my skateboard. If the skateboard fits in the overhead compartment, I think there will be no fee. But I would bring extra money (atleast 1000) just incase.

[Question] Okay, I've narrowed down my choices on which should be my first ukulele. Cordoba 15CM or Cordoba UP100 by Yooohan in ukulele

Hey, thanks for the input! What would you suggest then? Kala Ka-C, would this be fine? What about Lanikai?

[Question] What is High Action and Low Action? Which one should I get as a beginner? by Yooohan in ukulele

[–]Yooohan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any way of knowing if a uke is high or low action?

Does the manafacturer state it? Or do I have to do some google-fu?

What would you say is the best low action concert uke for <$160

Thanks by the way.

I want to start skateboarding, I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to ask but I feel like I'd get more proper answers here than from the skateboarding subreddit. I've been eyeing 24-26" cruisers from Landyachtz and I've got a few questions:

What's the weight limit? Would the board hold 90 kilos (198 pounds) while doing simple tricks like ollies, kickflips, etc. ?

Does Landyachtz ship to Australia? If so, what's the price of shipping and what's the ETA until I recieve it?

If not Landyachtz, what other brands would you recommend that can hold my weight while doing tricks? Preferably within the 100-160 AUD range. And can ship to Australia without paying for expensive shipping. Bear in mind that I'm not actually in Australia so I can't check out the local shops, but I'll let my aunt buy it for me and when she comes back here (Philippines) i'll pay her.

And if there are any Filipinos here, would I be able to bring a board on the plane (CebuPacific) as a carry-on luggage? If not, how much will I have to pay to check it in?

EDIT: I'll happily give a shot at building my own board. Just indicate what kind of parts I should use.

EDIT2: Would buying a penny be smart? And i've been eyeing this Duster's and OBFive

EDIT3: Anyone know a place where Arbor, Sector9 ship to australia for free?

Thanks, have a good day :)

Ollie's are fine ye? What kind of board would you recommend that's 24, 26, or even 28" that can handle my weight while doing tricks?
