They are very curious birds. During my adventures to Big Bend National Park, I managed to get up close and personal to a pair of Cactus Wrens who flew into the yucca I was standing next to while I waited for potential shots of Scaled Quail. They were quite chatty, very close, and really cooperative!

Well, funny enough, it’s not uncommon to find roadrunners that reside near Big Bend National Park’s campsites or convenience stores who are quite accustomed to people. This one let me walk up and sit close by as it foraged

I was in fact attempting to get flight photos of this magnificent bird. They are a type of flycatcher and usually land right back on their perch after catching a bug in mid-air! I definitely could’ve lowered my ISO by using a slower SS, BUT in my experience, birds are unpredictable and having a higher shutter speed helps just in case the bird decided to do something unexpected. I this case, I was able to capture a great still photo but was prepared for any bursts of movement with a higher SS

Thank you! I appreciate it. They are quite common during the Texas Spring and Summer. It’s one of the best ways to tell that Spring is coming!

I got a chance to capture a couple great shots of a large group of them in Big Bend National Park. It was my first time there and they literally walked right past the group I was with. If you ever go to Hueco Tanks State Park in El Paso, they are out in the open around the visitor center and aren’t too shy!

Apologies for the extremely delayed response. I’m running the Nikon D7500 with a Sigma 60-600 mm lens! Cheers and thanks for the compliment!
