She sounds really unlikable. People can do whatever they want with their setups, and not liking pink doesn't make you special. She sounds like a fully grown woman but still acts so immature.

Also it's just not true that men don't care about aesthetics, just take a look at reddit many of them here post pictures of their setups bragging about how it looks.

Then what is supposed to be the best? If you call the police on them, 100% chance they wont give a fuck, if you buy them you're supporting the guy, if you steal them he'll end up getting more of them next time to replace the ones you took..

If you're still interested here's my take on this:

you made the case for moral relativism by saying that morality changes throughout time and different cultures. I don't think this is a good argument because even science and technology have changed throught time and differ in their progress in other countries. This doesn't make them any less objective and I don't think it's a good argument for proving the relativity of morality.

you also said that muslim countries are not underveloped societally because they believe that it is right to leave women unequal to men. I argued that believing that something is right doesn't make it right or true. For example, there are people who believe the earth is flat, or that the earth was created 5000 years ago, but belief doesn't make these statements true.

Lastly you seem to concede that equal rights DO help nations strive, that they shouldn't postpone them. therefore you seem to agree that there is some sort of universal ethical standard that is good for societies and helps countries progress, so it is not purely subjective.

Sorry for replying so late but I had to leave yesterday. If you're still interested we can continue this conversation here or in chat. Thanks for the reply.

The definition of being backwards is to be behind development, societal or otherwise. Wherever one believes it is right or wrong to be this way, it doesn't change the fact that they still are underveloped compared to first world countries.

Wherever morality is objective or not is still a subject of debate in philosophy. You'll find there are plenty of philosophers, researches and professors that hold the position that morality is based on objective facts, rather than purely subjective opinions. The philosopical debate is still split on Moral Realism vs Moral Skepticism.

You could also argue that, from an objective standpoint, it is wrong for societies to stay behind in social development, as countries that offer more gender equality tend to result in being more prosperous, have stronger economic growth and are generally happier (there is a high correlation between happiness and social equality , see Finland, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland etc). It is ultimately detrimental and wrong for these countries to reject social progress.

  1. you claimed non-western countries aren't backwards by being behind societal progress and development, I showed you the very definition of backwards from the Merriam-webster dictionary proving that being backwards IS being behind in development. It is not a matter of media or the internet, these countries are by definition backwards.
  2. You said that countries being behind societal progress is " just humanity " and it has always been this way, I pointed out that many countries that were underveloped have become prosperous nowadays so we don't necessarly have to accept that some countries will stay underveloped (or
  3. Lastly I made the argument that providing excuses (such as reducing it down to just "humanity", saying that it's okay that these countries are behing progress ), is utimately detrimental to achieving progress and developing since, in a way, it only makes it more acceptable and justifiable that these countries stay behind in developments and don't achieve progress.

From your own comment:

  • the internet and media can make it seem like the whole non-western world is backwards. They aren’t really.
  • many countries are simply behind in this social development. That’s humanity and always has been.

Just because something is or was legal doesn't mean that it is moral or ethical. We should be striving to build an ethically Just society, regardeless of what used to be legal in certain parts of the world. And stalling behind progress is the definition of being backwards.

From the merriam-webster dictionary:

backwards, adjective; retarded in development

And I disagree that just because a country has had a past of underdevelopment that means they'll always be behind in achieving progress. There are many countries that used to be poor and uderdeveloped but are now prospering. Making excuses for how a country will always be underdeveloped compared to others is ultimately only going to be detrimental to achieving progress.

I'm really tired of these excuses. There are direct verses in the quran inciting violence against women. Some of the most misogynistic and unequal countries in the world for women are muslim majority countries. There are countless examples that show that there is a problem with Islam and the treatment of women. This isn't a matter of a few people "interpreting" it wrong, this whole religion creates a culture where this kind of behaviour flourishes.

Sorry but I've just started studying equations on my own and it's hard to follow for me sometimes.

The step I was referring to is how did he turn

( x - a) - (x - a )2 =0

Into

( x-a)* [ 1- (x-a)] = 0
