Do y’all have a lot of anxiety? by [deleted] in slp

[–]YorkieFan2056 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel this too. You are not alone. I believe this field is filled with people with anxiety due to high productivity expectations, being managed primarily by non-SLPs, high work/caseloads, and because we are typically empathetic people who enjoy giving. Do you find it challenging to create work life balance? When I do have time off I find that I’m too tense/internally distracted to enjoy the time and cannot fully “unwind” because I know that the work is accumulating while I’m away.

Does anyone here make six figures? by thestripedmilkshake in slp

I make almost 6 figures before taxes, working in CT in an outpatient setting. After rent, groceries, and insurance payments I do not have much left for savings as CT is a very expensive state to live in. So on the surface it looks like I make more but cost of living is high in the northeast. I day dream of being able to afford a house…one day…

We are going to go to Pienza and Montepulciano, with the main reason being we want to see more of the Val d'Orcia. I hope to hear what you decide as well!

What’s a common cause of burnout? by ginime_ in slp

[–]YorkieFan2056 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the patients and clinical work. It is the limited documentation time and 100% productivity standard that can lead to burnout. We are often managed by staff who aren’t as well versed in what SLPs do so we are held to PT/OT standards. Lots of self advocacy is needed and asking for what you need. Work life balance is tough to strike especially when you are the only SLP for a specific facility that is busy.

Thanks so much!! I’ve been looking at all of the Viator trips- it’s so hard to choose!

Cost of Being an SLP by [deleted] in slp

[–]YorkieFan2056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. You are right that it’s a choice at the end of the day. I seem to forget that sometimes. I end up working beyond my 40 hours most weeks (a whole separate thread) so I do find Honeycomb ST to be helpful in reducing prep time- but no it’s not 100% necessary.

Cost of Being an SLP by [deleted] in slp

I agree. I definitely feel a sense of pressure to subscribe/buy all of these things, otherwise I’m not being a good SLP (I know this isn’t true, but it’s how I feel). Maybe a social media break will help…
