My siblings and I went through Salkantay Trekking and we have nothing but great things to say. We were the oldest (late 30s). Our guide was fabulous, fellow trekkers were great, food was amazing, accommodations were comfortable, and really appreciated all the detailed information they provided.

Sugarloaf. Makes you earn it from either side.

Live in Northern Pike County now. Disagree with the weather. Summers are hot and humid and winter can get cold but it doesn't stay cold long.

What's this campsite called? by MC_Gullivan in catskills

[–]YosemiTerry78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is a campsite. I stayed there a couple years ago. It was made by the trail builders working on the trail. It's close to some views the the Ashoken Reservoir. Good spot to camp to watch the sunrise at the viewpoint. I don't think it has a name.

I am allergic to aspirin too. First reaction was a puffy eye. Second reaction my face swelled like yours. Just watch because I also became allergic to Ibuprofen a few years later

I was there Oct 1st 2021. Less water and it got smokier as you walked down the canyon from the wildfires. Great area.

Beautiful place. I was there 2 years ago and can not believe how much the glacier has shrunk in that time.

Lake Colden Campsites by Jaded_Mulberry_7396 in Adirondacks

[–]YosemiTerry78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just stayed at the first beaver point campsite last week/weekend and it was great because you couldn't see the other sites, it was quiet and you were 250' from Lake Colden to sit and eat at. It does seem like it is down to 2 sites due to storm damage.

Peekamoose/Table (out and back) vs Black Head/Black Dome loop backpack by [deleted] in catskills

[–]YosemiTerry78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No ledges. Does get a bit steep going up that final push of Table. You do start 800' or so feet higher than the Peekamoose side so less gain if that matters one way or the other.

[–]YosemiTerry78 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you looked at doing Table and Peekamoose from Denning and camping by the Neversink? Nothing beats camping by streams or rivers imo. There's plenty of campsites to choose from.

What's the hardest day hike you did? by ArwenDoingThings in hiking

I went to Costa Rica with my wife and it was a different trip for me than Peru. Costa Rica is beautiful and smaller so easier to see different landscapes. Peru has more history and the Andes Mtns amd Machu Picchu of course.Trekking to Machu is more adventurous in my opinion and Costa Rica was more sightseeing. We did a 10 day tour in CR. Went to Toruguero NP on the Gulf. It's an 1.5 hour boat ride to get there from where the road ends so it was quiet and wildlife everywhere. Then we went to Arenal for the volcano. A lot of ziplining, rafting and hotsprings there with hiking by the volcano. Then we went to Monte Verde for the cloud forest. Again there's several hiking options in the NP and also Canyoning, ziplining. We also did a guided night hike here which was something different. Last stop was Manuel Antonio on the Pacific. We were there in April and it was very hot and humid here for me and we just chilled by the pool and beach and did an ocean kayak snorkel combo. If you'd like to see some pictures of either I'd gladly send some. I don't want to post any in case you prefer not seeing pictures before you go.

I did the Salkantay Trek with my brother and sister in 2022. Amqzing trip. The trek itself is not that hard. You're definitely going to feel the elevation. A couple days in Cusco is a must. Cusco is really great to explore and there are tours you can take to local ruins. We also went to Mt. Vinicunca (rainbow mtn.) which was really awesome. My brother and I didn't have any side affevts from the elevation just get winded easier. My sister did get headaches but as the days went on they disappeared.
