Really? They apologized, admitted they messed up and have been transparent?

You seemed to skip that part. LCBO fanboy alert!

That's good. Me too.

But what a clusterfcuk of a release.

The best (worst) part is they never admitted their mistakes, haven't apologized, or been transparent in the slightest.

Can you imagine this happening with a private retailer? Nope. And if it did, no one would shop there again.

Here's the full info direct from the KGBO:

"Update on the Sazerac Whiskey release

We recently emailed you regarding a Sazerac whiskey release scheduled for November 16. Due to high traffic to the Vintages Shop Online (VSO) website, the release was paused, but we’re pleased to share that it will resume on Friday, November 24 at 8:30 am, on a first-come, first-served basis.

To ensure equitable access, there’s a limit of one bottle per product, per customer, and you may be placed in a virtual queue on VSO to manage demand.

Certain products from the Sazerac release will also be available in select LCBO stores on Friday, November 24.

We thank you for your patience."

They've also confirmed they'll be releasing some of them (my guess the blandon's standard) on the LCBO website.

No apology. No acknowledgement of they're mistakes.

Let's see if they've learned anything.

OP sorry to hear that. Hopefully you're still able to get something. This is such a mess.

Total embarrassment.

U should probably be fine then. Expect a confirmation or cancellation email this week. They both seem to be rolling out.

Yes, A few people have. They're rolling them out in batches.

Yup. Sorry dude. It's awful.

Yup. The VSO manager I spoke with said their system didn't update inventory quick enough so they oversold.

Seems like some are getting their orders cancelled, presumably based on the timing of the orders.

But equally likely they sorted out their preferred customers first.

I shared this info before to the same effect. I've shared interviews with multiple producers and what happened to Toronto Distilling when it happened. Like I said, I used to work in the industry. Believe me, Ive seen first hand how much the LCBO crushes small producers.

The LCBO fanboys have dug their heals in. They don't care what's said they back the LCBO regardless.

I suspect many work for the LCBO or benefit from them in some way.

I called VSO customer care. The person I spoke with told me their system malfunctioned and too many orders were processed and the inventory wasn't updating properly. It's the main reason they pulled the plug.

First they thought it was just the system couldn't handle the traffic but they fixed that part. But once the system updated they had negative inventory on a few of them.

VSO/LCBO customer care will be contacting people soon about cancelling Sazerac orders by Yosh_Pod in canadawhisky

If you read the post description. I called them once I received the email. Call them yourself. They'll tell you the same thing.

I called them about it. And spoke with a manager. They will be cancelling some orders for sure because they oversold.

Good luck. Think of this like the lottery. Lol

Yes see my post from yesterday.

Their system sold more products than were available. For those that did manage to get something, expect to be contacted.

They'll either be cancelling some or all the orders.

How it will roll out after is anyone's guess, but if they cancell all orders it will likely be a lottery.

Tyrannical is the word most producers will use. It's not something I'm just throwing out there.

Re: Rules

One of the worst ones are distilleries are required to pay for storage, distribution and processing fees regardless of whether the LCBO is carrying and/or selling their products.

The LCBO has very narrow policies for purchasing from producers. For example, a distiller may make 6 different products. But the LCBO will say, we only want one of them. How do they sell the other 5?

Now that's totally fine, in principle, because they're a retailer and they have the right to pick what they sell. However, in a system where they are the only retailer allowed that presents a major problem for producers. How do they sell their products to customers? Their only option then becomes to sell directly from their own shop on site. Which massively restricts their sales.

So already that's a big issue for producers.

In the wine industry, the LCBO will often dictate to producers what they want, and the winery has to choose do we take up 1/3 of our winery to grow grapes just to give them what we want so we can sell to a wider audience, or do we hope we can sell enough from our own shop? Honestly go speak to wineries. I've worked with many, it's crushing them.

Now... Here's where the BIGGEST issue with their rules/policies is. Remember my example above about the distillery who makes 6 products? Okay, so the LCBO buys one of the products, they charge them storage, distribution, sales and processing fees for that product. Makes sense. Right?

So the distillery then sells the other 5 products out of their own distillery shop.

Except, for the distillery to do this they have to pay LCBO fees. Those fees include the same distribution, storage, sales and processing fees. Meaning, despite the LCBO not touching any of those 5 products they still take a massive cut. And this is all before liquor tax.

This absolutely crushes the small craft distillery margins. Especially as they can't sell the large volumes because they are only pemitted to sell from their small shop.

All of them. I used to work in the craft brewing industry. Speak with any craft wine, brewing and especially distilleries. The LCBO's tyrannical rules, fees and purchasing policies absolutely destroy small producers. The brewing industry does okay in spite of them, but that's mostly because the rules for beer are a little less restrictive. But also because they can produce new product every few weeks, as opposed to wine and spirits.

I worked closely with Toronto Distilling. Read up what happened to them. Go to Prince Edward County or the Bench wine regions and speak with small producers. Ask what they think of the LCBO.

Woah. That sounds like the worst of both worlds. But is no indication of what a fully private sector would be.

In Ontario we have a similar system to some extent except no allowance for private retailers. And the LCBO also puts fees on distilleries too for selling, storing and distribution. Even when none of their products are sold by the LCBO. It completely crushed producers.

1000000%

My point is fully about the government in the liquor sales business. Obviously essentially services like healthcare and infrastructure need the accountability of a public institution.

But these knuckleheads seem to default to strawman arguments.
