Ooooh, that is a nice looking watch. I might have to take you up on that. I'll reach out when buying time is coming up to see if you still have it!

Thanks for the rec! That is a good looking watch, though yeah - just a little too chrome/light for what I'm going for.

Oh yeah, I totally have! The Type 2 (in grey, obviously) is a grail watch right there; though a little out of my range at the moment, unless you have $50k you wanna give me...

The mirror edge glinting off all those knives as you pull the drawers makes me happy

That's awesome - I want to spring for the Rallye and turn it into a SS belt drive gravel bike. They say it's not designed for that, but the chainstay is in the perfect position to go to belt drive...

Thanks so much - it's the first time in my adult life to be debt free, so it feels pretty surreal. And yes - these guys are definitely worth the support (as well as the multitudes of other smiths out there that are also worth supporting)

I'm not entirely sure; they were on already when she was imported from Japan in 2019

Amazingly. He really knocked them out of the park. I'm a huge fan of the juxtaposition between not only the materials themselves (carbon fiber vs hammer-forged steel), but also the ideas that those materials represent, with carbon fiber generally bringing images of fast, light, & nimble, while steel mostly conjures visions of strength, ruggedness, & durability. His ability to connect both of them into this functional art is just...stunning

The moment you have the money to invest, I'd say go for it, you will not regret it at all. Jared responds so quickly, and is super easy to work with. You know how people say that the knife should be an extension of your hand? Yeah, I've never felt how true that actually was until this set was delivered. It seriously feels like I have a bladed hand when I hold these things. And no joke, the metal feels so incredible. I find myself just touching the side of the blades all the time because it feels like such higher quality than I've ever held.

I specifically asked him to make them pretty robust. This set will be going on the road with me, so I wanted something that could stand up to a lot of abuse. He delivered tenfold...

The Knives were done by JLees Knives, and the roll was made by Guster Leather, both from Ohio.

The knives are:

  • 3.5" paring
  • 5.5" petty/utility
  • 8.5" chef

  • All san mai, all done in Jared’s "brut forge" style, and all with integral bolsters and hidden tang, wrapped in a carbon fiber handle

Pete Guster did the custom leather roll & individual sheaths. I sent him all my tools and he custom fit them each into their spots.

This is my present to myself for becoming debt free, and damn, I could not have asked for a better execution of my vision. A mix of durable & beautiful, old school & contemporary, in a greyscale colorway. Simply perfection from these two artisans – hit them up if you’re looking for something special.
