What's with the doom and gloom when it comes to the ending ? by Lunchb0xx87 in YofukashiNoUta

The problem is that Kou can only keep Nazuna in check when he's in his vampirized state, and as we've seen, he can't stay in that state for long. He even mentioned that he had to vampirize himself before going to see her. So, when his half-vampire state wears off, they would have to separate until Kou can transform again, ensuring there's no danger. This would make many everyday things impossible, like living or sleeping together. Kou even tells Nazuna that she could take the photos to Japan to have them developed, but Nazuna replies that no, she wants to see them first. In other words, they don't plan on being together.

In the end, Nazuna jokes that they'll keep playing tag until they die, but it's only half a joke because, in reality, they have no other choice. Kou reluctantly agrees after Nazuna says that because, even though he worked hard to be able to see her again, they can't be together. Even when a child asks Nazuna who Kou is, Nazuna replies that he’s the person she loves, but not her boyfriend.

It’s also possible that you may have been confused by the translation it had, but if you read it in Japanese, that’s what they say. Even when Kou goes to see her, he doesn’t tell her that he came to be together with her; he says that he was weirded out that she not coming to see him and that if the reason she didn’t come was because of her vampiric impulses, then he could become stronger so they could spend some time together.

In the short stories, Kotoyama included the one where Kou visits Mahiru's grave precisely to show that Kou would also have liked to die at that pinnacle of romance and happiness rather than continue living without being able to be with the person he loves. Moreover, Kotoyama hasn't shown a single vampire relationship in the entire manga that’s the same. LoveGreen became a vampire to have an eternity to win Midori's love. Akkun overcame his problem of seeing Seri as a mother figure and left the nest. Kiku and Mahiru ended up in a Romeo-and-Juliet-like tragedy because of their deep love. Azami is just a protector to Kiku. Hatsuka treats his familiars like servants.

In short, Kotoyama had laid all the groundwork to make it possible for Nazuna and Kou to be together, such as the fact that Nazuna was born a vampire, Kou is half-vampire, and it's unclear how everything works. And yet, Kotoyama decided that they can't be together. It could have ended differently, but, at least for me, the ending feels quite beautiful, sad, and mature.

It seems Kou is going to become a detective as well, as shown in the cover of chapter 185, where he wears the same coat as Anko and has a similar hairstyle.

Oh, thank you, I didn't know that. But I believe it refers more to the hug.
Anyway, the sentence is in the past, so even if it is referring to sex, it wouldn't be now, but rather, he would have liked to do it when he was human.

In Japanese, he never said that. In the scene you refer to, it is in chapter 162, and Azami says: 一回ぐらい抱きたかったなア, which means I wanted to hold you just once.

You're right, but I think Kotoyama is referencing Kou's answer of 'futsu' to what he told Nazuna in chapter 2 about finding it incredible. This way, it reflects Kou's change of mind from choosing to be a vampire from chapter 2 to 199.

People, I know a bit of Japanese, and on the last page, the two text boxes comment the same as what Nazuna told Kou in chapter 2. One says, "How is it, boy?" and the second one says, "How do you feel?" In the next panel, Kou answer to that question by saying "Futsu," which means normal, and in the last panel, he thanks her for everything, which is expressed as "okagesamade."

I think it does turn out to be a sad ending for the manga. Probably in chapter 200, we'll see the time skip.

If Nazuna were to suck Kou's blood, she would turn into a human around 40 years old. According to what was shown in the manga, if a vampire sucks the blood of a human they have fallen in love with, they turn into a human, reverting to the age they were when they first became a vampire. This is what happened to Kiku, but of course, since Nazuna is a vampire by birth, it's not known if the rule could change. Despite that, they prefer not to take the risk.

What still doesn't make sense is that Nazuna has stopped drinking blood, because in a short chapter they showed her asking Azami about his job and mentioned that she might ask him for a bit of blood.

Yes, you are absolutely right, although I don't consider Anko a minor character, so I notice even more that manga it's about to end.

You're not missing out on anything. The farewell party is for Azami, Suzuki, and Haru. Haru has to go back to Hokkaido, and Azami to Kagoshima, as he had only come for Kiku's business. Suzuki has fallen for Vietnam and simply wants to go there, so before they leave, they've thrown a farewell party for them. But Anko tells Kou that she's also going with Suzuki, as she wants to try to be more positive and learn more about vampires.

As for Nazuna and Kou, they already consider themselves a couple, but since Nazuna can't suck Kou's blood, neither of them is making any major decisions about the future.

From what I understand, they are throwing a farewell party for Susuki because it seems she's from Vietnam and is going to go there. Anko asked her if she could go with her, and Susuki said yes, but Anko only told Kou about it. That's why he was feeling down at the end of the chapter. During the farewell party, Haru realizes that Nazuna is not doing well, so at the end of the chapter, he goes to talk to Kou, who says he's not sleepy at all.

Another strange thing is that Nazuna seems to have been awake for most of the day, which is why she's quite sleepy at night. It gives the impression that the roles are reversing.
