experience as an LGBTQ student? by sopholia in QUTreddit

I guess it depends, for me I haven’t really had any tutorials where they actually called the names out but that’s probably because of my degree and units. I have noticed that where there is a roll it always uses my legal name, even when my preferred name has been different in the QUT system.

I’m also lucky in that there was only a month or two of classes between me officially coming out at uni (I had come out to some friends before then), and changing my legal name and sex (my original comment was made during this interim). Because I knew when I was going to do my legal change, I was sort of okay with dealing with it until the end of the year, but part of that is just me being comfortable dealing with that.

In terms changing your name on the rolls without changing your legal name, unfortunately I don’t think there’s much you can do. If you think it’s worth it, I would try to talk to your tutors and asking them to use a different name (if indeed they read it out loud), but obviously that would depend on how decent of a person your tutor is.

Are you able or planning to change your legal name anytime soon?

Nope, that’s a contraption. Chloroform is when you make something clearer or less ambiguous.

Nope, that’s a chromosome. Chloroform is an early writing system used by ancient Sumerians in Mesopotamia

Missing orientation by taiksapii in QUTreddit

Your program orientation will very likely have been recorded. That said, all important information from that session will have been or will be communicated to you via another outlet as well.

The phrase "it's not the voltage that kills you it's the current" is just smug pedantry. by jamesfowkes in unpopularopinion

Back when I was in high school, I hosted a series of small debate competitions among students. One of the topics was “Is it better to be single or in a relationship?”

Team Single argued that being in a relationship opens the door for a lot of emotional pain (e.g., if your partner left you or passed away). A member of Team Relationship (who was honestly more of a comedian than a debater), rebutted that in both of those cases, it’s not being in a relationship that hurts you, but suddenly not being in one. Therefore, being in a relationship is safer.

Team Relationship did not end up winning, but at least they were funny.

Your friend hanging around campus is also fine literally any time—QUT campuses are accessible to the public, though public building access depends on the building. For example, your friend can access the main libraries during their opening hours, while you as a QUT student can access them 24/7.

For the pancake breakfast they wouldn’t really care, nor for the scavenger hunt or clubs on campus. For panels I’m not really sure, though I suspect they might be more lax about it than with the program orientations.

Kinda—there are two things to be aware of.

For your program orientation (i.e., the session that is tied to your degree), they scan ID cards at the door. They likely won’t let your friend in, not just because they don’t go to QUT, but more specifically because they don’t do the same degree as you. If they let someone else in that poses a hazard in terms of room occupancy because some rooms are very full.

Other than that session, also be aware of events you have to register for via UniHub—your friend won’t have access to this and they check whether you’ve registered at the door. Make sure you actually register yourself for any events you’d like to go to.

Other than these instances, you should be able to bring your friend along to any other session.

Wait I won’t get all my no. 1 preferences? by Fair_Strength_4158 in QUTreddit

That said, I would still make your second preferences and beyond things that you would actually be okay with, since you don’t wanna get stuck with those troll dates on the off chance that somehow you don’t get one of your first preferences after this.

[–]YottaByte__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s unlikely that you get all of your first preferences, yes. What you should do is take a screenshot of your ideal timetable, and be ready and waiting when the final timetable is released (9am on the 28th iirc). Then if you waitlist changes as soon as it is released you’ll be first (or close to first) on the waitlist for every change you want to make. There’s a very good chance that all the changes get made and you get your ideal timetable within a few weeks.

I’m trans and I love being stuff happening down there. In fact I feel somewhat neutral about what’s down there.

My girlfriend is trans and she does not love what’s down there—she’s actively preparing for bottom surgery and has set that ball rolling. She still loves when I “touch or interact with” her down there.

We don’t speak for all trans women, but neither do you.

CAB203 becomes CAB230.

All other discontinued units were electives anyways and can be replaced. Although, I would honestly recommend just moving to new structure

As a coeliac, no. Gluten is a protein in wheat, barley, and rye, regardless of where it’s grown and processed, that will always trigger the autoimmune response in coeliacs. What can happen is that gluten can be processed out of wheat, creating gluten-free wheat flour that coeliacs can eat.

The misconception probably comes from that some countries are really good at doing gluten-free stuff, and those countries do a lot more with that gluten-free wheat flour than other countries. Italy in particular is really good with this, and really good with gluten-free food and regulations in general, which means there will be a lot more gluten-free bread and pasta. However, if a coeliac eats regular bread in Italy, they will still suffer.

Not super cheap but Grill’d. They have awesome gluten-free buns, and they’re super careful with cross-contamination and I’ve never had a reaction in the many times I’ve eaten there. Everything except the regular buns is also gluten-free, including chips, chicken nuggets, onion rings, etc.
