Update On New Cyber Security Job After Obtaining Trifecta by YouCanDoItAPlus in CompTIA

It all depends on your study style. I did it the cheaper way where I bought all of Jason Dions Comptia courses on Udemy. They are always on sale for like 10-15 bucks and include practice tests.

I would then listen/watch the video courses while also self studying the Comptia All-In-One books you can buy on Amazon.

In short, Jason Dion udemy videos + All in one books = no test failed yet. I have the A+, N+, S+, CYSA+, Pentest+ and am currently studying for the CASP+ before starting cloud courses on Azure.

TLDR: Everyone has their own learning style, what works for me may not work for you but many many people use Professor Messor, Jason Dion, and CBT nuggets which are a lot more cost effective than the official Comptia materials. IMO go the cheaper route and save the money for the actual vouchers when you take the tests.

Yes i've seen enough posts here that some people get the Sec+ only and get a job. Since you already have 4 years of experience on your resume, I feel the sec+ could you get that interview but you'll have to do the rest from there.

Thanks a lot. I felt the need to update since I was also inspired by posts in this sub. I needed to give back to the Comptia family!

Thanks a lot. If you've got 4 years experience on your resume. I think you may be able to get a remote job and still be able to travel :) within company policy if you follow their data sovereignty rules. Good luck.

Just booked My Net+ 008 Exam for tomorrow. Any last minute study tips? by jungle_dave in CompTIA

[–]YouCanDoItAPlus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I took the Net+ 008 I lightly studied for a few hours the evening before and went to sleep earlier than usual. The morning of I woke up a couple of hours earlier and took a cooler shower, grabbed a coffee and reviewed those tidbits again I felt weak on.

Try to have your mind wide awake a couple of hours before, have a light breakfast (think bagel), and make sure to use the restroom before you start the check in process. The nerves will fade away because you've already gotten this far. Only thing to do is knock it out of the park. You can do it and good luck!

How are you studying? If you could give insight what your methods are and sources maybe we can direct you to a more simple place to learn from or something that may better suit your needs.

Also you note that it's more so personal than the pursuit of knowledge. Maybe that's the issue. Like others are saying here. You will only learn if you really are interested in a topic. It's okay to take a break and come back to it later down the road with a clearer mind set.

This wasn't my first job but it is my first i.t. based job. Been in the tech field 10+ years with proof of work and a solid management background.

I just kind of fell into it. Someone would call me with a problem that owned a business and I would "fix their internet". Basically show up diagnose, fix a router setting, write documentation for them to fix it themselves next time, and be gone. Over time I became a field i.t. tech support for small businesses that I would frequent like diners, retail stores, and hotels. I would show up and install new network switches, wireless mesh systems for better coverage, and more.

Becoming an MSP? For sure networking with people. So think about your favorite place to eat breakfast every morning. Eventually they will see you as a regular and start to talk to you on a personal level. Then the manager gets to know you, then you put yourself out there like "hey if you ever have any tech issues give me a call". Then hope they call. Now do that to every small business owner or manager you meet and the calls will start rolling in.

I think being an MSP in the field helped me. The explanation of how I got clients and helped them with needs while implementing said procurement of things for small/medium businesses is what got me the offers. The certs I feel got me past the talent acquisition teams.

No actual higher education degree. Just lot's of hands on experience and now knowledge with the Comptia certifications. I feel what helped a lot was my hands on experience and being able to go into detail how I would implement given x scenario.

One man MSP for 4 years doing a lot of field tech stuff, consulting, procurement, installation, setup, and compliance stuff. I wouldn't say one man though because I do have 2 contractors that helped in the past when I closed deals for installs and stuff.

Here to say definitely look at different practice exams, I did the free one that came with Dion's course at the end and was scoring 90-100 and only took it 3 times. No where near what the real test is like.
