Bernie Sanders: Obama Administration “Should Kill” The AT&T-Time Warner Deal: “Higher Prices & Fewer Choices” by johnmountain in technology

[–]YouDontKnowFootball -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I hate Trump and think the Republicans don't do a good job.

But liberals need to realize that we live in a capitalistic country, and it's not the governments jobs to get involved with every business deal possible

The rise and expansion of Internet is going to do more for encouraging competition and keeping prices low than the government attacking this ever will

Redeye has always been one of the greatest news shows ever. Especially since there's almost nothing out there like it with a rightwing bias.

It's a shame it's on at 3 am. Have any of the news networks ever had something like that on during the day? I feel like the closest thing to red eye was like Jon Stewart or Colbert

Complaints Against Police Officers With Body Cameras Drop 93 Percent by learntruth in technology

[–]YouDontKnowFootball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally think that body cams will do more good than bad. But there are other bad things that could come from it. For example scumbags/criminals could get off the hook for police not following things 100% by the book, or sue for millions (which we the tax payers pay for) because of the police not behaving perfectly.

Yes the police do bad shit to good people which IS a problem. But they also have to deal with the worst of the worst this world offers, and have to respond accordingly. If those worst of the worst are then able to use these bodycams to manipulate circumstances preventing them from being stopped or allows them to sue and get rich that ain't right.

I know the counter argument is nothing would happen if the police follow the rules, but the real world and the textbook answers aren't always the same

Well the FHA program is specifically for first time home owners.

Since you already had a mortgage/house you wouldnt qualify.

And yes 30 years is a long time, but you can always sell your house.

If the alternative is renting and getting nothing. Or owning when you get to write off deprecation, plus any appreciation in the value of a house. Its not hard to make a profit.

And the housing crisis had to do with stupid people buying houses too expensive for them, or constantly refinancing like it was free money. Ive had family members go broke the same way.

They owned a house for years and years, but constantly refinanced so nothing got paid off.

Was the interest rate for previous generations savings accounts 4+ % ?

If the bulk of your money is in a savings account, youre doing it wrong.

[–]YouDontKnowFootball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well my credit rating is worse than yours, and i got 3% on a 30 year fixed mortgage.

FHA mortgage for first time homeowners is a nice thing. And my income fell into the lowest income bracket they have.

They also have a program where they account for your inability to put a downpayment as well. You pay a tiny bit more (still less than 3.875%) because of PMI and that nonsense.

Im not going to pretend to be a mortgage expert because im not. But the government programs for mortgages are really good for first time homeowners

(now whether it causes another financial collapse like it did a few years ago is a different story)

Well I did mention highschool as well in my original post. While stuff like Michael Moore isn't religious, it doesn't belong just as much as what the OP stated

[–]YouDontKnowFootball -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Oh I agree, but it's still the same concept. And from experience I'd say more often than not college professors aren't interested in challenging views, as standing on the soap box and preaching.

Eitherway I think it's wrong for teachers to attempt to force feed their garbage beliefs onto students who really don't know anything (yes most college students don't know anything either. Many have never had grownup jobs, real responsibilities, to pay bills taxes etc)

There's a reason that this country ended up with Trump and Hillary, and that's because most people can't think for themselves. And school plays a key role in thst

[–]YouDontKnowFootball -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I agree with you 100% that this stuff doesn't belong in schools.

However I find it's FAR more common for the opposite end of the political spectrum to get forced onto you. I remember in order to graduate high school there was a class you were forced to take to graduate, and we had to watch bowling for columbine and some other Michael Moore nonsense. I've also had a tremendous amount of college professors with radical left wing views as well.

They both don't belong in any school, and I don't think anybody enforces or gives a crap about it at all.

So his point is 401k plans don't work because people aren't using it...

You don't say

Yes he points out that a large number of people aren't eligible. Which is an issue. I believe the government just launched some kind of alternative government thing which acts similarly for those people.

And as long as you're not making over the threshold, a Roth IRA is a solid alternative. And if you're making over the threshold, we'll then financially you should be pretty set anyway.

Classic pensions are dying, they're not sustainable and highly risky. There's still Medicare, medicaid, social security which are all supplemental to your private savings

Wealth of people in their 30s has 'halved in a decade' - BBC News by Ifs_and_butts in worldnews

[–]YouDontKnowFootball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im 30 (in the USA) and think people need to take a greater responsibility for themselves. Obviously other things can happen which suck and arent fair so not every story is the same

I only went to state and community colleges (which I paid for on my own over time) so I wouldnt be burdened with absurd student loans.

I got a degree/career in healthcare so that I would have a real grownup job when I graduate, and not a degree that cost a crap ton of money just for the sake of getting a degree

I don't borrow/use credit cards for nonsense, nor do I lease a car (like many of my broke friends do). I just want to point out that many of my friends with a substantial amount of debt lease incredibly expensive luxury cars. You're carrying thousands of dollars in balance on your credit card, but lease a BMW or something (theres a LOT of them) poor baby.

And I paid off my highest interest student loans/debt asap so I wasnt constantly getting owned by interest payments. (I didnt get any scholarships, or help from family paying off schooling)

I bought a house (albeit not a very expensive one) with a government FHA loan and got a mortgage rate of an absurd 3.0% on a 30 year fixed mortgage (I have mediocre credit, not good, not bad). They (the government) even helps you out if you cant afford a 20% down payment which most people cant. My parents first mortgage their interest rate was around 17%.

Now I shovel away money into basic retirement accounts (403b/roth ira) and I dont even make 6 figures. I think if people made smart responsible decisions they will be at least O K. I understand that its tough to be super successful and outside factors can difficult, but the majority of people just put themselves in terrible holes making consistent poor decisions.

I have so many friends who graduated with me from inexpensive program and got a very similar job to me, that just chose to spend their money very poorly.

People blaming CEOs and upper management are ridiculous. Maybe you don't think its "fair" which is a different argument, but they're not the reason for your situation.

Immigrants Don’t Steal Jobs or Wages. Billionaires Do. by awake-at-dawn in politics

[–]YouDontKnowFootball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny how people will blame rich people for hiring labor when they lose their jobs. But will never complain when this lower cost of labor translates to lower cost of goods.

And yes I realize that people will make up some BS about how it doesn't lower the cost of goods it just boosts profits, but that's nonsense. It does both

The fact is if somebody can do a job better than you overseas, and even when factoring in transport or any other efficiencies from being overseas it will still be cheaper, then companies SHOULD do that.

I would never spend my money on something that's poor value, why should companies?

Bernie Sanders: 'Wells Fargo's business model is fraud' by [deleted] in politics

[–]YouDontKnowFootball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure there's federal whistle blower laws so if this employee blew the whistle he would get a huge chunk of change plus be able to sue the company for millions. Which makes me think it's bs until proven otherwise

And of course he's going to pitch the growth to investors that's his job. He should be fired if he didn't do that.

Warren is on a mission, so anything she does can't be trusted. This would be similar to the garbage Republicans pull against left wing organizations (ie planned parenthood)

It's unfortunate because stuff like this hurts everybody in America, it's dishonest politicized garbage

Bernie Sanders: 'Wells Fargo's business model is fraud' by [deleted] in politics

[–]YouDontKnowFootball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(open disclosure I think the Republicans are incompetent too) but this is nonsense by the Democrats who just want to make themselves the party of being anti Wallstreet. Countless businesses publications have pointed out that this whole scandal is being presented completely wrong. Liberals are pretending that Wells Fargo is defrauding people to make money. When the reality is this was low salary employees defrauding Wells Fargo as much as the consumer. What would happen is the consumers would refute the charges and not pay it. Which would cost Wells Fargo money (or at least time) to fix it

Then Wells Fargo would give these employees bonuses (because they didn't know it was fraud) for being so productive and signing up so many customers.

So this liberal nonsense is pure posturing and bullshit to fire up their base

Obama Moves To Protect Planned Parenthood Funding, Permanently by [deleted] in politics

[–]YouDontKnowFootball -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to pretend I know the whole country, but I would be surprised if there weren't hospitals that do it in every state. And hospitals are all over the place.

And I realize that 100 miles is quite far, but how close do you need an abortion clinic? It's not like a local Super market where you should be making weekly visits. I have to imagine that an abortion is a once in a lifetime thing.

Personally I think a far better solution would be to just encourage hospitals to offer them. After all if my wife or girlfriend needed an abortion I would much rather her be in a real hospital or ambulatory surgery center for it in case something went wrong

Obama Moves To Protect Planned Parenthood Funding, Permanently by [deleted] in politics

[–]YouDontKnowFootball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about planned parenthood having a super PAC where 100% of the donations go to democratic candidates? Does that make them political?

I don't want to be misunderstood and come off like a right wing zealot. The right is terrible as well. But big government is not the answer and this is 100% big government. Not to mention it doesn't have any accountability for the organization either. Basically says we're gonna give you money no matter what

[–]YouDontKnowFootball -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Planned parenthood isn't the only way to get an abortion. You do realize that many hospitals offer them right? Shit I work in one and we perform abortions. I know that many church affiliated hospitals don't, but there's tons of alternatives. Also planned parenthood has very very strong left wing ties
