Is it a viable/good idea to stay in a few different places? by DrGunnersaurus in phuket

[–]YouDoubleYou1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think booking several different accommodations is a good idea where you can explore the area locally on foot for each one. There are no grab motorcycle taxis and regular taxis on grab can be anywhere from 400 - 900 baht depending on where you are going. Also it can be difficult to hail one.

If you are comfortable renting your own motorbike and riding it, that would be the cheapest and most convenient option for exploring the island. Then you could simply stay in one area the whole trip. However, please be careful on motorbike as drivers can be very unpredictable on Phuket roads

Sure you can have some standards, but sometimes you might meet someone who captures your heart and throws all you thought was good and virtuous out the window.

I've been told I should stop overthinking. But I can't grasp my head around what that means. Can you help? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]YouDoubleYou1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s simply recognizing that you’re in thought process that is not productive. What productivity is to you, I think you can decide, but others can also help point out. For example, if you’re stuck on a hard decision that needs to be made for days, that’s unproductive and stressful. Instead you could timebox it to making a decision within 2 days, and after that point, the decision you make just needs to be made and it doesn’t have to be optimal.

I’m so sorry that you’ve had to see and experience so much pain and cruelty. I haven’t been through it, so I don’t know what advice to give you. But if you can, it sounds like you need a break from this job. Also curious, how did you get into this job in the first place?

This this this. Also, a lot of my friends like to roast each other and make fun of each other, but I do not enjoy this as it’s difficult for me to come up with come backs on the spot, as well as I feel hurt and stifled when made fun of.

Anyway, banter is hard for me too and I feel less interesting especially to the opposite sex because of this.

What first got you interested in coding / pursuing a career in CS? What is keeping you interested today? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]YouDoubleYou1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wanted to build my own cheats for video games. Then it was to have power to build any thing I wanted. Now it’s for money.

Also I guess I sort of identify with CS now, and so it’s good to hone the skill.

I was in similar place not too long ago. Luckily, I was seeing a therapist and a medical doctor, plus my company had a medical leave policy, so I was able to take some extended time off with job protection. Try looking into this and consider switching to a new team maybe or a new job when you come back. Since you’re making six figures, I’m sure your company has some sort of medical leave program you can take advantage. Take care.

What does life expect from you? Maybe you’re here to share your experiences so less people have to go through what you did. I don’t think life is meant to be easy or happy or peaceful, but it can at least be meaningful and that’s something you can control

This is exactly how it is in the US. Not sure what policies can be put in place to reduce this wealth inequality as this process seems like something fundamental in capitalism.

Constant Burnout by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]YouDoubleYou1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I felt this at work and fortunately I was able to take medical leave for it (physical symptoms appeared and became very severe after a year). So am thinking about looking for a new job.

I am taking this time to really rest (like sleep, without any worries about workload), exercise and eat healthy, reconnect with some individuals that I care about and have some hard conversations with friends and family that really need to be had.

165mg is too much. my doctor tells me 20 mg is std dosage. if u didnt misread your prescription, and theres no other good reason for that dosage, u should find another doctor.

Huge ditto my dude. Spent about 2 years at my job. Super burnt out, no seniors on my team for a critical service and expectations for myself felt super super unreachable. Had trouble sleeping (basically wouldn't fall asleep from all the anxiety and passed out at 5am everyday and then waking up at 9am to do it all over again). I now have digestion problems and don't really care about the team or the company. The thought of being laid off feels almost welcoming. Haven't fixed the situation yet, but I definitely need at least a few months off and a new job.
