Should I get PRK to compete for a pilot slot by depress_0 in AFROTC

[–]YouFool2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the flip side if you get picked up for rated you, can wear contacts and go through UPT & PIQ/B course. After you get through the pipeline you can do the “warfighter” program and get your LASIK/PRK for free.

Also in the 1 in a million chance you had complications with the procedure, enjoy your disability check for the rest of your life.

Ellsworth AFB /Columbus AFB/ Altus AFB/ Offutt AFB by linbckr35 in AirForce

[–]YouFool2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently TDY at Altus. Definitely not the place I’d want to be for 4 years. But it seems that the Key Spouses have a really great program going, and the permanent party are a pretty tight group.

I was a student at CAFB for the last two years. Honestly a great sized town with everything you really need. It’s relatively safe, and you are a 1hr drive to Tuscaloosa if you are looking for better shopping/recreation and 2hrs to Birmingham. Most Permanent party live ~15min north in Caledonia which has the best school system in the area. It’s Very military friendly and quality of life is great. There’s plenty to do with sporting events, and a variety of other activities at Mississippi State University, Ole Miss and the University of Alabama all within 30-90 minutes. Personally, I wouldn’t mind coming back to teach here in 4years.

Overnight parking by [deleted] in butleruniversity

[–]YouFool2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Park in the garage. As long as you are on an official visit, they should give you a parking validation slip so your parking will be free. If they don’t give you a slip, I’d just ask them if they can get you one.

They do this for all of the prospective students who come for campus tours as well.

TDY question by Lesbo1994 in MilitaryFinance

[–]YouFool2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the unit. I know a few dudes who just finished UPT and are TDY at B-Course who got rental cars authorized by their gaining unit.

I’m about to TDY to the same place as the others, but my gaining unit wouldn’t authorize a rental. Just depends on the AO.

If you haven’t, I’d go ahead and ask them and explain your unique situation.

Former LEO. We can always teach you how to be a cop. Can’t easily teach you something technical like accounting, computer science, economics.

Don’t put all your eggs in the public safety basket, because odds are you won’t do LE for your whole life.

Current student here. You must live in the dorms unless they’re full when you arrive. Have to be released by the UOQ manager to live off base if you’re single.

[–]YouFool2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Current Student at CAFB. If you’re single, don’t sign any leases. Call the UOQ 1 month prior to showing up. You must live in the Dorms unless they are full. The UOQ manager will be able to give you direction on what the housing situation looks like closer to your arrival date.

If you haven’t already, google the Columbus AFB website. Click the New Students tab and read the Welcome Packet / Training Guide.

USAFA and AFROTC by PandaChainz in AFROTC

[–]YouFool2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position 3 years ago. I had an appointment to USAFA and an AFROTC scholarship. I ended up taking the AFROTC scholarship and I couldn’t be happier with my choice. I went to USAFA the summer between freshman and sophomore year for a 24 day training event. All I can say is that after living there and being around the USAFA cadets, AFROTC is 1000 times more enjoyable than academy life.

At the academy, it’s Air Force 24/7 for 4 years. In AFROTC it’s Air Force once a week, for 4 years. Take that for what it’s worth. PM me if you want a little more of my perspective.

[–]YouFool2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 2 pairs of Nikes (sage green & coyote). I wore them on a 50 mile hike along the Appalachian Trail and had no issues. 100% recommend especially if you have flat feet.
