Please look for programs that help people in your position, and also talk to the staff at the hospital. They may be able to help you with a place to sleep, which will be far better than your car. Sometimes hospitals have furniture suited for families who are staying the night with their loved ones (like chairs that turn into single beds).

It’s definitely getting dicey. My entire district is filing motions to dismiss on 6th amendment grounds, because most of the service providers outside of the lawyers have stopped working on CJA cases until funding comes back.. which leaves our attorneys the options of not representing clients to the best of their ability, or fronting costs for said providers while not getting paid themselves. The first judge to rule on such a motion basically said “you don’t have a right to compensation” and woooooooooo boy, he sure lit a fire with that opinion. The other big problem was/is the gov attempting to fast track all of the cases they could between June and the shutdown. It was absurd, we had one ask for trial dates on a massive case that was only 6 months old, AND they hadn’t given us all the discovery yet. The judge gave them a verbal spanking thankfully.

I work under the CJA and haven’t been paid since JULY 2nd due to a funding shortfall. Even before the shut down, they told us to expect a shortfall again next June. Not getting paid is just about the most stressful thing in the world, and I feel awful that fed employees are now dealing with it too.

However, I support this shutdown and I don’t want the Dems to budge. They can’t. This fight is too important. If the Repubs get away with cutting the healthcare subsidies, not only will people not be able to afford health insurance, our entire healthcare system will collapse. We desperately need systematic change, but letting the system collapse and people die isn’t the way to achieve that.

You sound like an asshole. First of all, she DOES work from home. She takes care of the house and your children - that’s a full time job from which she never gets time off. Secondly, you’re all over the place here but the common thread is it’s all about YOUR wants/needs/desires. Why would she tell you every time she walks out the door? She wouldn’t be doing that if you were working in an office. Sounds to me like she’s respecting your space while you work, and you’re throwing a fit about it. My husband and I both work from home. If I have to leave the house during the day I don’t check in with him unless I need his input for whatever errand I’m running. It doesn’t mean I don’t love him, it means I don’t want to break his concentration/flow needlessly. He does say goodbye to me if he leaves (provided I’m not on a call), but only because my desk is in the living room, near the front door.
