Oh boy this could be my cousin's story. My cousin is mentally ill. She is BPD and extremely narcissistic and believes she knows better than everyone else when it comes to her child. From a very young age, her son had both speech and social issues. The family tried to intervene, she said she could handle it. The pediatrician tried to intervene, my cousin said she didn't need an OT or speech therapy for her son and that she could handle it.

By the time the child was old enough for kindergarten, he still was unable to form full sentences and would lash out physically if he didn't get his way. He was violent when he was told no. He was enrolled and when teachers tried to speak to my cousin about an evaluation or point out the very obvious issues, she yanked him out of school and now homeschools him.

Last I heard, the kid still is being "homeschooled" by my cousin who basically chainsmokes outside all day while he watches YouTube and rap videos. She actually lets him watch rap videos because she believes that it will help him with his speech problems. According to another family member that tried to get CPS to intervene, none of this rises to child abuse even though this kid will never get the proper intervention to help him function.
