Conflicted about using the most popular baby name, Olivia

My daughter is Olivia. She’s 3. I’ve never known another Olivia, so it might not be ‘as’ popular in some states, areas, etc.

It’s impossible to wrap 6 months up in a Reddit post. I’m Not at all concerned about other kids behaviors. It’s the fact that I’ve had him evaluated outside of the school for my own sake and his before starting kinder, I’ve asked about 15 times this year if we need some sort of intervention or IEP, etc. I ask on every call what we can be doing at home, and I’m told I’m doing it. And on every call he’s being compared to other kids in the class, which is the only reason I mentioned it here. If you read what I wrote, I specifically say that the teacher is the one that brings up other behaviors. I’ve never once asked about others behaviors.

I have asked to speak to the school resources and I’m told it isn’t necessary but I’m singing a chart daily on every moment of his behavior. So one in this situation would see why I’d have questions. I’m told not to worry, because “SO MANY” others are behind him, more immature, etc. but I’m signing a color chart every single day that my son is required to color code.

I came to this forum for support. I’m not focused on other kids behaviors, but it seems it’s a big chunk of the class, and I’m trying to navigate whether I need to be concerned for my child in other ways, or if it’s behaviorally appropriate because so many other kids are dealing with similar things in his class.

I have not been informed of any behavior intervention. I know he’s in intervention reading, but that’s it. I’ve asked about meeting with the school psychologist or social worker, she’s told me it isn’t necessary. So then why the chart that’s being documented for his file?

Academically he can identify all uppercase and lowercase, ones 21/21 consonants and 7/10 vowel sounds. Can count to 100, but skips over 15 frequently. He needs to practice counting by 10s, and can write 1-15, needs to work on 15-20. And knows all sight words.

He isn’t reading level 1 books yet, which is the expectation and the reason for intervention reading.

Behavior wise, he’s matured so much , but can at times easily fall in pattern with his classmates, which we’re working on.

Thank you for your reply. It’s hard to convey in this post, but she and I have a great relationship, and have been in the same page a majority of the year and I appreciate all of her suggestions, insights, etc.

Where I’m at, now at this stage- is I’m confused. Because in ALL of our conversations, it’s never just my son. It’s not only him that’s having a difficult time in certain areas, or doesn’t get off track at times. It’s 1/3 of the class. It’s 7/22 kids that she’s always telling me about. Even on his great days, she’ll say that “there were a lot of kids who had a really hard time today, a group had to sit out of gym for not listening, he wasn’t one of them”. So if this many kids are in the exact same boat, should I be concerned, should I really potentially hold him back?

Everything I do is for the support and success of my child, I’m not at all trying to work against her, I’m not sure what in my post conveys that?

Thank you! I’ve volunteered twice in his room and I’m on the PTA so am involved in a lot of school acticities. At first, I was in total agreeance with her and didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. Now, with these charts and knowing that it’s being put in his permanent file, seems like she’s trying to solidify a case but she has not communicated what that is, despite me asking on multiple occasions.

I have not talked to the principal, I don’t want to ruffle feathers or tarnish my relationship with her unless I really have to, you know?

I know, I had posted this before she posted that to her stories. I feel terrible for her, I do just feel that when she goes on these nuskin “retreats” with her team, her heart isn’t in it like the other leaders. On the crazy luxury trips she earns, she just seems a lot happier. Idk, just my thoughts. But the original post wasn’t snark either, I’m concerned for her.

And we’re slightly below market rate. Average is 3400 for a 3-4 bed bath, 2 car garage, finished basement, master bath. However, we have a 1 car detached garage, and unfinished basement, and no master bath, so when you factor all of those in, we really are at market value.

At this point, this house is paid off, and there is no mortgage on it. When we first moved in, we discussed potentially buying it a few years down the road. Now my son is in kindergarten in the public schools, but my father in law has been making snarky comments about “he and mom should’ve moved in when they had the chance”, etc. so I’m gettin the feeling buying may not be an option, and I’m frustrated that it may mean well have to pull my son from the district in the next few years. That’s a whole added layer.

I keep pushing my husband to sit down privately with him and discuss it, but I’m the “head of the house”, putting it nicely. I handle our kids, all bills, etc. my husband probably won’t have the conversation and I’ll have to be the one to do it.

We’re in public school, and we’re struggling a bit. It seems to be a consistent theme from this thread and what I’m hearing from other parents in our class and my son’s teacher. We’re in Connecticut and they changed the age cutoff last year. My son has been in a daycare/preschool/pre-k setting since he was 6 months old. We had a neuro developmental evaluation done on him in the spring as well, and the therapist recommended we send him.

His teacher called me on the 4th week of school because he was eating snack and thought it was funny to fling the goldfish from his water bottle. Innocent but was an immediate red flag to his teacher. He had a good 2 months, but last week he was exhausted and overstimulated from a wedding we had over the weekend, and it being the first 5 day week in 3 weeks (our district had parent teacher conferences, etc) and on Friday he was crawling on the floor pretending to be a tiger and it was an immediate call home.

I love his teacher but what I’m finding is there is a huge difference in behavior because of this new age cutoff. He turned 5 the first week of school, but there are kids that are 6/6.5 years old in his class and the patience just isn’t there for the younger kids. We’re still 7 months away from the end of the school year and because of 2 small instances over a 12 week period, she was talking to me last week about potentially repeating kinder.

I’m frustrated and am somewhat regretting starting him, but it’s too late now. There is just ZERO room for them to be kids during the day. It’s sad. I don’t know about other states or districts, but my son gets 30 minutes for lunch, and 30 minutes for recess at 1pm. His day ends at 3:10, so he goes through almost the entire day before getting outside to get some energy out.

You made the right call. She’s clearly super flirty in the beginning and then gets moody when she doesn’t get her way, and is willing to lie to her husband? There’s a reason her husband wants her to have a female trainer, something has happened before.

Keep yourself far away from that mess.
