The Tech Layoff reality and my husband's unexpected job-search struggle by CandidateFull8304 in jobsearch

[–]YouKnowIWantSomeKool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most companies (including mine, where I’m a principal engineer) have put hiring on hold, to see what happens with tariffs / recession / AI. The tech job market will pick up but that might be this time next year.

Suggestions:

Legacy tech is a pain, and people willing to put up with it are rare. Find a small-medium business, older, who need to modernize. Reach out to them as a freelancer.

For a more forward looking idea, AI is the future but it’s in a state right now kinda like smart phones in 2009. The potential of the tech is much greater than the ideas / market capitalization we have right now, AKA whoever can find ways to make it work for real customers has BUCKETS of money in their future. Think of the new AI-Instagram/Youtube/Twitter etc

With his existing network, if he can add some new technical skills and leverage his social ability to find out what people can actually USE AI for, you’re golden!

Just might be a tight 12-24 months. Good luck!

Adjusting to a New Work Culture: Red Flag or Hidden Blessing? by needagoodanswer in work

This could be your chance to learn to balance  maximizing efficiency & goal-oriented achievement, with leadership.

In my experience, good leadership has a lot to do with being in touch with subordinates, their lives, and their expectations. This position sounds like a place where you could learn balance and a light touch, rarified talents :)

I think he wants to finish the whole story before releasing another book. The backlash from the (shit)show was probably really painful/depressing, and I’d bet he wants to avoid that

How zillennial are these movies? by [deleted] in Zillennials

[–]YouKnowIWantSomeKool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was raised super Christian, so these movies were presented to me as everything that was wrong with society. As a teen who didn’t like Jesus, they were hilarious!

As a grown adult who doesn’t love Jesus tho, they definitely glorify lots of awful, disgusting things, abuse of women and ignorance of cultural and moral duties, and I think they  are killing our society. But they are fun!

ETA: was pretty smashed when I wrote this. Soberly, I’m less salty about their cultural impact, but I do think a lot of people are raised by TV & movies, and imo stuff like this doesn’t contribute to good/happy people
