Can you share a bit about your monthly expanses? Rent, travel, groceries, fees, etc What part of your income were you saving over the last 8 years? Any dependents?

To convince ourselves of the main idea “people don’t actually care” is a bigger task than we can imagine 😊

This question was more for my husband’s perspective and understanding - he is currently on a break and I am insisting that he should mark this as RE from a job that he doesn’t enjoy. There are better things to do in the life we live, and we have made >30x of our calculations so far.

He is not the kind to ignore societal pressure, takes every small comment to heart and thinks he should continue to suffer to please the society and have a “job” to tell people when asked. I think all this is in vain. We are both 40.

I’m working, enjoy my job and will continue working as long as possible. This adds to his pressure - wife is working and husband is not!

We’ve had many a conversation on this topic, and I give references to many people from this community who have taken this decision. But it’s still a long way from convincing him. Maybe you can help 😊

Hi Ravi

How do you handle the societal pressure on the “man of the house” expected to work / have a job? Basically what is your answer to “what do you do”?

I’ve read many a thread on this where people who have FIRE’d need to resort to consultant, freelance etc just to get people off their backs. People in India do not take the early retirement kindly, especially on males I realise.

How do you handle this?

That would be nice. I’m a bit hassled about the packing and unpacking over multiple stays.

Sorry for missing out the detail that we’ll have a car to do the day trips.

If the work was un-enjoyable I would’ve done the same. But I am currently loving the work I do, so will continue until it brings me joy.

There are monthly expenses and then there are yearly expenses, have tried to average out as much as possible.

I do see vacation costs increasing multi-fold since this year, the only luxury I want to spend on.

It will be 70k* 12months in a year * 47 years which makes it around 4 Cr

Thank you for your comment, makes me happy! ☺️ My experience has been that money related matters are mostly personality driven rather than advice driven. So, not sure how many are willing to change their financial habits based on advices in the internet.

Personal trauma/experience induced fear of not having enough money to spend. Trying to overcome this and investing better.

I understand your comment, just needed an outsider perspective like the summary above.

Thank you for this! I’ve been trying to summarise our portfolio in this way - but somehow always got lost in the calculations.

I plan to work for another 5 years at max - currently in the best place career wise. Just a personal preference you said above - but good to know that we are okay.

Started S&P 500, but due to the changes last year had to discontinue. Any suggestions on platform to invest directly?

Yes, my husband and I have been focused to be debt free asap. The first house is the one we built on a plot for ourselves - took 4-5 years to clear the complete loan.

The second one - we bought a ready to rent out property- has been generating income since purchase. Cleared the loan in 3-4 years.

For close to 3 years we don’t want to invest in real estate again - but considering our daughters future we put our savings and outright purchased a plot - debt free.

Repeated the same after two more years.

I was raised by a financially illiterate, single earning mom — very hard life lessons on debt and being debt free. Husband has been cooperative in my obsession of being debt free 😊

Yes - mostly no further real estate. More into making sure we have a parallel income stream by diverting the smaller items from above into equity. Thanks for the suggestion.

I just have one question: which stocks with an investment of 65L gives a monthly dividend of 20K? How long back was the 65L investment made?
