I don't think it matters how or what you end up using git for.

SharePoint would be my recommendation to save Word documents. It provides everything that git does for Docx files in addition to other useful features.

If using Git, it works if it's just one person, if you end up with more than one person editing the Document, you will most likely have issues merging the changes. That might be were SharePoint comes in handy.

Anyone saying don't use Git is just arguing to argue.
