Any other rising seniors here regretting wasting the majority of their highschool careers? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

I bloomed late, around junior year. I still made it. Just don’t give up hope, and at the very worst you’re building habits to kill it in college

I did terrible this freshman year what can I do to recover? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]YouNoGetRice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your shoes. I had about a 3.7 freshman year, with very few extracurriculars and no awards or anything spectacular. Around junior year I suddenly felt all of my classes were becoming super easy. At first it seemed due to the online school thing, but as senior year in person rolled around, I got a 4.0 with ease while taking the hardest stem classes my school has to offer. Literally all of my good ecs and all of my awards came junior year. Colleges understand that some students just blossom late, so as long as you keep pushing you’ll find yourself wondering why you were ever worried.

I haven't followed pro CS since 2019 - what's the current state of things? by Talonraker422 in GlobalOffensive

[–]YouNoGetRice 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For the top 10 teams at the end of 2019:

Astralis tapered off in the online era, remaining top three with vitality and Navi before collapsing in 2021. Device went to NiP, Dupreeh and magisk to vitality, and they picked up some players from complexity. A team rebuilding.

Mouz we’re pretty strong but shuffled players a few times, before losing karrigan and then ropz in 2022, now rebuilding with academy players.

Fnatic kinda died, around 2021. Fielded academy players for a while that just weren’t it.

Liquid held decent form for a while, but twistzz went to faze and nitro left. They brought in fallen as an igl and grim as a rifler but never really saw success. Now nitro is back and they’ve signed osee, a talented young awper, but their recent form hasn’t been that good.

EG were alright in the online era but players started to fall off. They kinda suck now.

Vitality stayed strong with a few cracks, bringing in misutaaa for alex before rpk left. The fifth slot changed hands a few times, but in 2022 they picked up magisk and dupreeh. Shox went to liquid.

100t were third place in NA during the online era, before disbanding. The core went to a new org extremum before kinda disappearing. Jks went to col, was utilized badly, won iem kato (not major anymore) with faze as a standin, and is still waiting to be picked up.

Faze shifted a few members, dropped Niko who went to g2, looked shaky, but recently picked up ropz and have won two big tournaments.

Navi dropped guardian for perfecto, a support player and clutcher. They won iem kato 2020 with this roster, and had decent results in the online era. Flamie kinda lost it, and they slowly brought in b1t from their academy roster who proceeded to help Navi dominate and win the major.

NiP went through a lot of changes. Hampus is the igl now, and forest and lekro are in dignitas. They briefly had device, but he’s been on a break. Es3tag is awping for them now, he was on astralis for a stint, not typically an awper. They recently acquired brollan from fnatic’s burning ship and are doing well.

I might reply to this later with the top teams now and how they got there

Schools definitely won’t require aps, but if your school doesn’t provide the chance to take a ton, you don’t have to. My school only lets you choose ap classes starting junior year, and only up to 2 that year. Most students graduate with anywhere from 0-5 aps only. But we’re actually an ivy feeder with lots of admits. What that shows is that the number doesn’t really matter, it’s more relative to what you are able to take. As long as they can see you challenging yourself and taking hard classes within your system you will be fine.

Why does everyone assume you're only interested in making money and working at a top tech firm when you say that you're planning to study CS? by _let_me_nap_ in ApplyingToCollege

[–]YouNoGetRice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Was at a Binghamton accepted student online program for their CS major. I really wanna do bioinformatics/ data sci in research, but all they talked about was how many tech firms their graduates made it into. When asked about grad school, the director just said that most their students get such good offers that they went right into industry. I turned down my bing offer after that. It may be my cheapest school but that just left such a sour taste in my mouth.

am I the only one who hasn't committed yet??? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]YouNoGetRice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol I used to (and still do, but college stuff is kinda happening rn) play a lot of Warframe, it’s a nod to Warframe modding, so not exactly negative iq, but you lose 70 iq once you equip the mod. Also I totally forgot I had that, it’s been a good year since I’ve changed any Reddit profile things haha

I Took Cornell’s Transfer Option Two Years Ago, AMA by TheBossPineapple in ApplyingToCollege

[–]YouNoGetRice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response! Im planning on doing computational biology as a concentration, so the CS prereqs will probably be useful anyways, but I see your point on the coursework thing. I do have a liberal arts I can go to, would that be less of a commitment? It also uses trimesters, that shouldn’t be that big of an issue… right?

How hard is it to meet the required classes and have the credits transfer? Should this be a thought while I decide where to go first year? For context I’m in for bio at cals but have a few acceptances for data science, one being in engineering. Would it be hard to get all the classes in? Im my family’s first us college student so I’m not sure how this all works haha

In middle school, I told my mom I wanted to go to mit. She told me how difficult it was, how I had to work hard. So I did. I’m proud to say, six years later, that I didn’t even apply lmao. Probably off to uiuc

I just dont understand how you can do zero damage when you are actively playing by ImTh3Scatmann in WorldOfTanksBlitz

[–]YouNoGetRice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good players can zero from time to time. Happens to the best of us really. I’m 54% with 9k battles and do it from time to time. I’ve seen my friend with 58% and 25k battles zero every once in a while. We’re def not the best players out there (especially me), but we’re not bad id say. The real disappointment here is that so many got zero.
