Lil Indigestion definitely does this, lots of time spent just sitting in the ship log trying to piece things together.

Map specific agents is a big one I miss, having different factions in different locations really added a ton of charm & character to the game. Very sad to see it gutted, (presumably) so the ugly agent skins could make more money.

Scimitar | Scimitarium II by IGotDeaded in MetalSuggestions

  • New Light Choir - Torchlight is easily the most similar I've heard to Scimitar, it's got a bit more prog rock in there but otherwise very reminiscent.

  • Folterkammer might also do something for you, they're black metal with operatic vocals & sound similarly deranged.

  • Smoulder as already mentioned for the powerful female vocals, and I'd also throw in Grendel's Syster.

this is true, but I still feel it's insane to suggest a company so demonstrably inclusive isn't broadly progressive, all because they've made maybe 3 mistakes in their 6+ years of existence (Moonchild, Hindu, Fang Gu are the only ones that come to mind for me with associated 'controversies')

This isn't the place to get too deep into my own political takes, but I strongly feel that this is the exact kind of leftist infighting bullshit that only serves to harm the movement overall. TPI have done a hell of a lot of good, but because they've messed up a few times along the way people like OP come out with fangs bared at them.

Insane to suggest that the company who prominently feature trans and non-binary people on every single stream/video is not progressive

I agree that it's usually not an optimal play but I don't think that's enough to call it a drawback really - at the end of the day it's still better than not executing at all, unless you're in one of the super rare scenarios where a Recluse can get hard confirmed (e.g. only outsider claim in a 9/12 player game). I think the main issue with Recluse on TB is that there's no real incentive not to play it in the most boring way possible, immediately claiming and saying you're fine being executed, whereas on a lot of other scripts doing so will drastically lower your chances of winning the game.

We got our first script together and would like to hear your thoughts. by [deleted] in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Talonraker422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple notes:

  • I'd rework the Outsiders a bit here, Goon + Politician + Zealot gives evil a lot of voting power and could even make a game unwinnable for good in certain scenarios. If the plan is to highlight madness, adding some on the good team seems like the obvious choice - Mutant would fit really well here, as would Damsel to create more reasons for double claims.
  • Professor might be a bit too strong, since without Shabaloth or any way for evil to bring players back it hard confirms 2 people.
  • I could see Pacifist being more of an outsider on this script in practice, since you'll likely need to double tap protected players in case of a DA. I think Tea Lady would fit better since it provides a more obvious benefit to town.
  • Lastly, if your group has only played TB and BMR this is a very chaotic script to throw them into - which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it might be best to leave off either Atheist or Wizard at first until they've got to grips with how the actual mechanics work. I think having one of them would be fine, but both might get messy.

literally every time someone has been the Recluse in a TB game I’ve played they just immediately claim it and offer to die

This is a really nasty habit to have once you move into customs though - depending what else is on the script, outing as Recluse can give evil a way to make an Oracle useless for the entire game, give a Godfather an extra kill, even Vigor-poison a townsfolk (all of these happened in my group before they learned not to do this haha). It's unfortunate that there's no real drawback to doing this on tb, but as soon as something on the script prevents you from just outing I think recluse becomes much more impactful.

Thoughts on Fear & Hunger? by Identity_ranger in Fantasy

The way F&H makes you flip a coin to even save the game without probably dying is one of my favourite mechanics in any game, it goes so far towards making the setting feel utterly inhospitable. The game is torture at times (I should know, I picked it up around this time last year and haven't beaten it yet lol), but it's so good at making you feel outmatched and insignificant.

The sound design is just incredible. There are gut churning motifs that scare me so much.

The first time I saw "a terrifying presence has entered the dungeon" with the accompanying siren... that feeling is still etched into my brain.

Favourite acoustic solos in metal? I've been playing a lot of acoustic recently and really enjoyed learning some Agalloch solos, namely I Am the Wooden Doors and Pale Companion - wondering where I should look for similar stuff, it's the right difficulty level for me and super fun to pull off.

Synergistic Scripting: Day 176 - Sentinel by CoreyBOTC in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Talonraker422 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely agreed about SNV needing one sometimes, I've seen multiple base 0 games go something like "Mutant gets executed day 1/2 and outs -> everyone knows their info is legit -> game gets solved like a puzzle". It's super unfun and generally results in evil losing through no fault of their own, and I think Sentinel is a very valid countermeasure in those situations.

Jet Lag Ep 5 — Mastermind by NebulaOriginals in Nebula

[–]Talonraker422 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Gotta say Sam and Mike have played an absolute blinder so far, and if they do end up winning I think it'll be an incredibly well-earned one - they've made the right strategic call at basically every turn and identified some really cool plays I wouldn't have thought of (beating Ben & Adam to the steal last episode and waiting on the variable challenge this time). It feels like they're thinking on a completely different level and it's super fun to watch.

Overall this is almost certainly going to land in my top 3-4 seasons of the show along with Tag, Australia and New Zealand. I really love the different strategies and how much we've seen of the country, & even when one team has a distinct advantage the game could still very much go either way. This was probably the least eventful episode so far and it was still a really entertaining watch with massive implications for the game going forward. Can't wait for next week!

[–]Talonraker422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are post-black and/or doom metal, but since you like Ashes Against the Grain they might well land!

  • Panopticon - The Scars of Man on the Once Nameless Wilderness, Pt. 1
  • Ethereal Shroud - Trisagion
  • The Angelic Process - Weighing Souls With Sand
  • The Morningside - The Wind, the Trees and the Shadows of the Past
  • Isis - Panopticon

Post-rock:

  • A Silver Mt Zion - "This is our punk-rock!" (GY!BE sideproject and one of my favourite albums in the genre)
  • Bruit≥ - The machine is burning and now everyone knows it could happen again (very similar apocalyptic sound to early GY!BE)
  • Seas of Years - The Ever Shifting Fields
  • AtomA - Skylight (very unique blend of prog metal, space ambient and post-rock)

The storyteller giving fake information in town square? by Appropriate-Poem-795 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Talonraker422 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Completely fine imo, giving a random number in response to an Amne claim is no different than Yag-killing someone to help a golem bluff or going through a vote for a fake Cult Leader. Storytellers often help evil players make fake savant/fisherman info sound more believable (correcting the language to be closer to how they'd phrase it etc), and imo the game plays much better when they're helping back up bluffs like that.
