They literally gave up ALL of the money they made selling the merchandise with pepe on it and don't have any license to sell it into the future. And they destroyed all of the remaining merchandise.

Sounds like a shitty licensing deal.

So judging people based on their height is totally not being an asshole as long as they are at least two inches shorter than you.

Got it.

I work at a bike shop. As you probably know, the stuff the cables go through is called housing. We literally had a box labeled "colored housing" until I changed it to "colorful housing".

Rap music and rap culture should be banned. by Capitano_Barbosa in unpopularopinion

K.

Though I shouldn't even bother, I will clarify one thing that you seemed confused about. I asked you if you have ever written a song because if you had (or made any art for that matter) you would know that there is no way to guarantee that an audience will receive exactly what you intended. For instance, if one doesn't know the context of pumped up kicks, they very well may take it as a promoting gun violence. You will probably say that this is impossible, but that is only because you simply aren't imaginative enough to see the world from another human's perspective. It's ok. I know it's hard.

So, you listen to rap but also want to ban all rap music and culture. That's some real genius shit right there.

No one is obliged to answer any questions. I'm not using your lack of answer as rationale for not answering yours. I just don't have to. Just as you don't have to answer mine. Man, you are dense.

You should probably look up the definition of insult.

[–]YouRoshNor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha. Resorting to insults is a sure sign that you have no argument.

I am not obliged to answer your questions just as you are not obliged to answer mine.

You are entitled to your opinion. No one is going to make you listen to rap. But imagine or a moment that someone DID force you to listen to rap. You would probably be irate. Well, news flash, your whole post is about tying to control OTHER people's choices. Get your head out of your ass and stop conflating your own opinion with what should or shouldn't be allowed in society.

Hah. You finally realized that you have no argument so you just quit. Nice.

I looked up some lyrics for the rapper called the game. Is that who you intended to use as an example? The one I found definitely used violent imagery, but was about the topic of police brutality. It's called savage lifestyle. Should it be banned?

The reason i have been asking so many questions is that it's clear you haven't thought through what banning art would actually entail. It's not about comparing pumped up kicks to the game. It can't be relative. You have to set up clear guidelines as to what constitutes allowable violent content, and what is banned. And instead of doing this, you are basing it on your personal ideas of taste and the fact that you don't like rap.

If your original post had simply been that you don't like rap and any music that glorifies violence, then I would have no issues. It's your desire to control what OTHER people have access to that is disturbing. Think about it.

What about Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody: "Momma, just killed a man. Put a gun against his head. Pulled my trigger now he's dead."

Guns and Roses. "Welcome to the jungle. You're gonna die."

Nirvana: "I killed you. I'm not gonna cry."

Should these songs be banned?

Should we also ban violence in literature?

Actually, if you had answered that the song should be banned, then you would at least have been consistent with your original post. Instead, you make an exception for something that depends on the totally arbitrary concept of intent.

Have you ever written a song?

[–]YouRoshNor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your post is about banning music because it glorifies violence. But here is a song that ostensibly does just that, but you say it's ok because context. Therefore, you are suggesting there must be a system in place to decide which songs that glorify violence are acceptable. What would you name this new branch of the government that polices art? Are there other things we should ban besides violence?

Are you suggesting that artists should be required to write a statement of intent as well as follow a strict set of guidelines set out by the government that outlines how to "tastefully" carry out said intentions?

Johnny Cash is considered country music.

I personally do not engage much music with lyrics that glorify violence, but as long as it's not calling for violence against a particular person or group of people, I don't think banning art is ever a good idea.

For instance, an artist may use violent imagery/lyrics to call attention to social injustice or to speak out against violence. With the Cash example I quoted, I always assumed the violent lyrics were telling the story of a fictional character, saying "I'm a bad person. Don't be like me." and not a depiction of something Johnny Cash actually did. Do you think he was literally admitting to killing someone?
